demiveemon — Siesta Doodles - How do you draw an ancient frog?

Description Rocky the Frog has always been a part of my Siesta pictures with only few exceptions. Yesterday's doodle with the mammoths was one of those exceptions, but I sure missed him.

Tonight I've been doodling frogs, trying to come up with a concept for his ancestor. But, how do you make a frog look like his living in the ice age?

Haha. xD I doubt they've changed much in a looooong time.
Rocy seems to be asking me, why I would want to change a winning concept. %D

Exactly! Maybe there's no need to change anything.

Yeah. I think I've come up with an alternative that should work and add some humour of it's own.

Any favorites among these? I'm still trying to find a concept. I like the gills as an alternative to be more bold and add saberteeth, just to make it look "Ice agy". XD;

Uh, hard to say. All of them look nice and funny. The only problem I see with those saberteeth is that frogs are supposed to have no teeth at all.

I see the exact same problem. xD

I'm sorry I couldn't help you with any alternative. xD

demiveemon In reply to pata1 [2012-07-31 11:01:20 +0000 UTC]

No need to feel sorry about it. Maybe there isn't any good alternative. :3
It's a weird mix at any rate, a coldblooded crocodile and a wooly mammoth....
I did read that there used to be mammoths in the south as well, but they were more like modern elephants, since they didn't need a thick fur, like the most wellknown of all the mammoths.

Now you really got me curious! On the other hand I'm somehow used to that, as your siesta pictures usually are a nice mixture of different animals, colors and humor.

Haha! Atleast we're getting closer to this picture being drawn, now that I've been doodling Henry and ancient Rockys...

And without his grand-grand-grand saber tooth grandpa I suppose? ^^

Him we will see too. Well, more of him than Al, since he's inside Pete's belly. ;3

Good point. Which is actually a good news for you, since you won't need to draw your most complicated character.

I doubt his great, great, great, great grandfather will be any easier. XD;

Hmm at least he has less stripes. Probably. XD

Maybe he has spots instead. o_o

Could be. I guess we'll never know until you decide to draw him one day.

demiveemon In reply to pata1 [2012-07-31 21:59:11 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. xD
Maybe I'll do him partly striped then. Historians seem to think that sabertoothed cats were mainly spotted. Atleast they are on the pictures I've seen. I wonder if he will have a long or short tail...?

pata1 In reply to demiveemon [2012-07-31 22:54:43 +0000 UTC]

Hmm I think I've seen both versions - spotted and partly stripped. Depends on the cartoon haha. Oh, the tail? I'm not sure. Maybe the middle one?

Time for me to crawl to bed. Heading out on a trip for a few days. I'm hoping to bring a scribble or two along when I get back in a few days.

Thanks. It ended up to be a very nice three days trip, although we spent most of the time in the car. Saw a lot of nice things, nice views, my father's childhood home (the neighbors got worried when a set of strangers were walking around the house, photographing and pointing at things, but we cleared things up and got a nice chat %D) and ofcourse the summer house I hadn't been to for like 15 years. Boy has those foilage grown wild and large! o.o; Some things were sad as well. We visited my aunt (last time I saw her was 1½ years ago when she was showing signs of forgetfulness and a little confusion caused by it). Now she didn't recognize any of us and hardly reacts when trying to talk to her, so that was saddening. All in all I'm happy we managed to squeeze in this trip right before heading back home to Denmark.

Great to hear you had fun on your trip. And sorry to hear about the aunt. Same thing happened with my grandpa in the last months of his life, but to be honest he was quite old at that time. It was saddening, though.

As for me, I'm planning a short trip tomorrow, hopefully I can catch some swimming as well.

Yeah, I wouldn't have wanted to miss out on it. A lot of memories from way back and it was nice to be able to show my boyfriend and also learn a little more about my father's youth.

Wow, that sounds nice. Where are you heading?

I'm back at home now. It was a nice trip to countryside which ended with swimming in a lake. I really enjoyed it.

Welcome back and I'm happy to hear that you got around to go swimming during your trip! Got a chance to do some photographing as well? :3

Thanks. I did, but since most of the photos include either me or my friends, I have no intention to upload them to my gallery.

Fair enough. The important thing is that you had a great time with your friends!
