Boom-Boom???

Muttering curses and rubbing his torn up cheek, Lucifer returned to the corridor. He had finally been able to free himself from the furious feline and disposed of it, by flinging it out the window. As far as he was concerned, the Skitty was someone else's problem now.

"Seriously, they could use it as a secret weapon against that rampaging statue of theirs!", he thought to himself, wondering if his partner Zoe was faring any better.

Raising his head, Lucifer could see that the air was still filled with smoke. The sight filled him with dismay, because it meant that the original problem was still at hand. He still had to locate the fire, the source of all this pollution.

Sighing heavily, he looked down the corridor and instantly felt his spirit rise. Further down the hall there was another door. Smoke poured out from underneath it and slowly rose to the ceiling.

Hurrying towards it, muffled sounds coming from behind the door, alerted him to the presence of trapped pokémon inside. Fearing the worst, Lucifer braced himself for what was to come next and dove right through it.

Expecting to be greeted by a wall of searing heat and roaring flames, Lucifer had squeezed his multicolored eyes shut. Opening them gradually at first, they now popped wide open. There was no fiery Inferno. Atleast none that could be seen. Instead there was incredibly dense smoke, and there was lots of it. The sight caused Lucifer to moan, but he quickly reminded himself, that somewhere in this smoke filled hellhole, there were small children in need of his help.

Recovering from the initial shock and overcoming his own disgust, Lucifer began to pick up the various sounds and noises, that were coming from within the smoke. The most detectable one was also the most puzzling one. It was made up from a series of short huffs and puffs, followed by an elongated wheezing sound and a loud, snapping gasp right at the end. There were sobs and wimpers too, but they were muffled and less frequent.

Intrigued by the huffing and puffing, Lucifer took a deep breath and pushed forward into the smog. It readily engulfed him and quickly robbed him of any sense of direction. Wherever he turned, the same sight of rapidly swirling vapor greeted his eyes and added to his confusion. Before long, he could no longer tell up from down and he was starting to feel nauseous. Growing desperate, he closed his eyes and tried to calm himself. Focusing his thoughts, he recalled that he was inside a room, a confined space. That meant, that if he continued, in any direction, he was bound to strike one of its boundaries. Once there he could reestablish his orientation.

The thought comforted him and the nausea subsided. Remaining where he was, Lucifer slowly allowed his eyes to open once more. Gazing into the swirling mist in front of him he noticed something he hadn't seen before. It was the smallest hint of a glow. He had overlooked it earlier, but now he was certain. Could it be Zoe? Was she looking for him? Suddenly Lucifer longed for his Rotom companion like never before. He didn't want to be alone in the dark any longer. Yielding to his fear of the darkness, he started for the glow, his glimmer of hope

"Zoe!", he blurted out, as he broke through the last veil of smoke seperating him from the glowing light. Then he fell silent. It wasn't Zoe. As it turned out, there wasn't even a fire. Dumbstruck he stared the three children in front of him; a wailing Koffing, a baby Solosis and a young Tyrunt.

The Koffing appeared to be in a state of tantrum and was continuously pumping out thick clouds of poisonous gas. There could be no doubt. The Koffing was the source of all the smoke and the puzzling noises. The smog that it had created was so dense and acidic, that it caused even Lucifer's eyes to water, and he was a ghost. He shouldn't even be affected by it! For any creature, that was depending on air for its survival, breathing this toxic mixture must be torture or worse. How the other children trapped in here had lasted for this long was beyond him.

His perplexity finally wearing off, Lucifer roared with sudden anger, "What the hell do you think you're doing!?"

The distressed toddler fell silent and looked up in amazement. "Boom?", it said. Then it caught sight of the Solosis, or rather, of the blue pacifier, that the baby was blissfully suckling on. The Koffing's eyes widened and grew moist. "Binkie!", it exclaimed with a gasping voice. Poofs of smoke began to exit its vent-covered skin. It was working itself up to a new fit of rage.

"Oh no, you don't!", Lucifer barked. He was having no more of this.

The momentary break in smoke production had allowed the smog to dissipate enough for him to realize, that they were standing close to an open window. Snatching the pacifier, he hurried to the window and threw the desired item as far as he could.

"Binkie!!!", Boom-Boom cried out and hurriedly fluttered after it.

With The Koffing taken care of, Lucifer turned his attention to the remaining children. The Solosis seemed to be doing fine. In fact it was doing better than he himself. The Tyrunt, however, was a different story entirely. Unable to avoid the smog, Boom-Boom's onset had left it severely poisoned.

"I have to get you out.", the Shuppet murmured. He looked around in the dusky light. "But how?" Looking back at the sick Tyrunt, he considered his options. He couldn't carry it. Despite being a mere child, the dinosaur was way too large for Lucifer too handle. It seemed too sick, to stand up and walk out on its own. Lucifer grew miserable. "What about Zoe?", he thought, but shook his head. That wouldn't work either. He didn't have the slightest clue where she was and she was even weaker than him. Remembering the open window, his mood brightened. There was something that he could do. He could call for help.
