Description
During the events of the coup that transpired against Haguro Isamu, much was lost. Primarily was the loss of the late Oyabun’s life and secondary were important heirlooms that were in the Haguro’s possession for many generations. One such possession was the Crimson Melody, an odachi and one of the Haguro family’s ancestral blades and named for its unusual red blade and the strange hum it emits when drawn and used. Stories of yore claim that it was forged long ago and used to strike down a giant demon whose rivers of blood soaked deep into the odachi’s blade.
Seized during the coup by Hayashi Kyoshiro, one of the late Oyabun’s former lieutenants and an Okuri-inu, the odachi was lost when Kyoshiro managed to hand it to his trusted right hand before being felled by the late Oyabun’s daughter. Kyoshiro’s right hand, Tsuyoshi the Onikuma , was barely able to escape Japan with the blade along with the remnants of his master’s faction. Tsuyoshi would go on to rebuild their faction in New Luxerion by offering themselves as hired muscles and mercenaries and in the domain of the underworld, such services were in high demand.
Violence made them prosper yet fate has a way of coming to knock on one’s door, no matter how many years have passed. And on this night, retribution would arrive.
There was a loud thump as Tsuyoshi’s head thumped on the floor, liberated from his shoulders by the very same blade that he had stolen all those years ago, his body following after, crashing into the floor.
Rai let out a controlled sigh as she allowed herself to unwind. In death, Rai could not help but admire the fallen Onikuma. Even when the disparity in their skills became apparent during their clash, the grizzled warrior had refused to back down and fought with even more ferocity to the bitter end. Rai cast her gaze around the private underground dojo, pausing to take in the exquisite sculpture of Hayashi Kyoshiro that was set at the head of the room. Equal parts dojo and shrine, it would seem that Tsuyoshi spared no expense in honoring his former master. There was something to be said about the loyalty that Tsuyoshi had kept for his old master even though years had passed. Many were those that hungered for more once they had a taste of independent power.
“If only your master had chosen to remain loyal to his lord. Yet in the end, he was but a rabid dog, willing to bite the hand that fed him.” Rai mused to herself.
The familiar sound of fluttering wings caused Rai to turn, just in time to see Mia and Asuga who both spared a quick bow. From the blood marks on their tanto, it would seem that they had finished their task of dealing with the rest of Tsuyoshi’s henchmen.
“The compound has been cleared and the authorities will be here in ten minutes,” Miu tilted her head and gazed at the Crimson Melody, “Finally back in proper hands?”
Rai nodded and brought the odachi closer to inspect. She was fascinated by the way the blood seemed to seep into the blade and cause it to pulse with a vibrant crimson glow and a low humming. It wasn’t lost to her how the blade sounded like it was singing during her fight with Tsuyoshi. Putting such thoughts to rest for the moment, Rai sheathed the blade and motioned for Miu and Asuga to move.
“We should make ourselves scarce then. Let the authorities deal with the aftermath.”
As the three made to leave, Rai spared one last glance at the fallen Tsuyoshi before she wordlessly turned and walked away.
