Description
Another short entry for Eldritch Creatures, this time its one of the Black Dogs called the Black Shuck and some of the giant animal varients called Giant Bats.Black Shuck: Large black canines that are horrible phantom hounds said to roam the countryside of England bringing misfortune to people. This beast and others like it have been sighted in places of Europe, the appearance of these hounds including the Black Shuck varies in size and appearance such as some being the size of a calf or a horse while others have either one large eye or no head and only a stump but almost all Black Dogs have in common is that they are an omen of death and misfortune to all who see them.
Giant Bats: These flying rodents have been spotted in large jungle areas across the globe where local tribes have been attacked. These beasts appear three to four times the size of a regular bat in comparison and with some reports saying they would look like "flying monkeys" or "birds" to the untrained eye.

When we were little, my mom told me and my sister not to go into the forest because the ' black dogs ' would get us.

Yeah, I've red about Black Shuck being either one-eyed or headless, but I don't normally think of it like that. It's scary enough without being grotesque.
The giant bats, however, don't seem all that supernatural to me. I mean, bats can get pretty big in nature (most noticably the Flying Fox). Of course, those larger bats are mainly fruit-eaters. Still, I wouldn't expect the giant bats to be anything more than 'familiar' when it comes to dark magic.

Well there are other Black Hounds that fall under the grotesque catigory
Though giant bats aren't really supernatural, they're still under the catigory of cryptozoology sense the idea of giant bats and giant animals in general are still not recognized by modern science
Dark magic, definetly. Those sorts of things can be connected with the black arts
