Three times. Godzilla uses the weapon more like a last resort like he did in the original films from the mid-50s to mid-70s. From the late 80's to 2004, he just went berserk with it which made most of the battles not as exciting and thrilling. It's more epic and groundbreaking to see the King literally grappling with his opponents and using his body as a weapon instead of relying on his energy-based attacks all the time.
