Description I understand what wind turbines are about. What troubles me are the ill effects that are unknown. There have been studies and peer medical reviews in regards to the ill effects to humans who live near to the farms, but it brings to my mind many years ago with studies of chemicals and manufacturing materials that were thought to be safe only to be banned because of the dangers they present. I truly think at times greed may play a factor in choices that are made today. Acoustics and vibrations, pollute in a different way. I stood by these for some time while photographing this particular farm and I honestly felt ill. I can just imagine the turmoil individuals go through if they have one of these farms in their backyard.

I so agree with you.  Learning to build clean technology that harmonizes with the environment and all living things that are part of that ecosystem should always be taken into consideration. AND great photograph!

What kind of ill effects do you expect? Ok, they make a noise, but not so loud really. We have lots of them here, but never so close to a house that it would be noisy there. I live right at a main road in the center of town - I wouldn´t mind swapping my noise for that of a wind mill.
Also - we can´t have it all. If we want to use electricity it´s got to come from somewhere. And to live next to a nuclear power plant won´t feel more comfortable, I assume.
Perhaps there are better ways to produce green energy - but it´s a start at least.

it is a start yes but the majority of wind turbines in north america are land based and a good portion of them are near populations. a great percentage of the people who live near them are having health effects that are delibitating. i do think if they were away from people it would be less intrusive and people would not feel ill. in europe they have a greater percentage in or near the water away from population base. i guess in north america they have the luxury of large parcels of land to erect them.

Most wind generators here are inland ,too - I live 150mls away from the next coast. But they don´t get erected right next to a house, it always a few hundred yards out in the fields. I can´t really imagine what mysterious effects they could have on people anyway - except for things resulting from noise. Noise does cause illness, that´s proven and nothing new. A third of the population is affected by that - people living next to highways, railroad, airports ect. Or, like me, on a busy main road.
But there are problems with wind energy - the biggest is, that they need wind... Sometimes it´s not blowing, another time it´s blowing to much, and it doesn´t care when people need electricity and when they don´t. If it´s stormy (and a lot of energy could be produced) they have to turn them of, because they would spin to fast and self destruct.
But there are other, more promising methods to get green energy, that work more reliable and permanent. Stuff like wave power generators on the coast, or geo-thermal energy inland. All it takes is - to start doing it.

No issue with green energy, just wish that there would be more thought about where they put them in regards to people and of coarse mammals and birds but not enough people speak up that's all. Thanks for the replies.
