Description
This image was inspired by my mother's neglected garden. Every winter she plants beets and other vegetables in her two gardens but because the summer is so hot and dry she abandons it to it's fate. I love watching what grows in these abandoned gardens. I hate actual gardening. I'm lazy and don't feel like pulling up weeds or going through the effort of fertilizing the soil or planting the plants. Besides, the end result is so sterile and perfect. It's boring for me to look at a perfectly trimmed garden. I prefer to watch and see what will naturally grow. It's pretty fascinating what you'll find sprouting up from the soil. My mom didn't plant anything last year. I suppose we got too busy. So I've been watching the growth and death cycles of these various plants all year. One thing that grows abundantly are beets. Looking at what I call the 'beet forest' in the garden inspired me to paint a little beet forest of my own. The plants are supposed to be beets but it's pretty impressionistic so it doesn't have to be.This piece was very experimental. I just started with a vague idea and an empty canvas and this evolved. I'm surprisingly happy with how the ship came out. (It's not a beetle) I really struggle with mechs, they're so much fun but I can't do straight lines. It's getting out of my comfort zone, and hey, after some practice I'm starting to get a feel for it!

I like the messy painted nature of this piece, as well as the lighting. The color choices are interesting, and I like that you went with a yellow-green for the light rays as opposed to the usual orange or white light hue. It really catches the eye.

Interesting piece and a very interesting story as to how this piece came about. I love the lighting and at first I thought this was traditional painted art but it's not. It has a very traditional feel to it and I like that. Makes for a very interesting landscape, great stuff

Thanks! I was trying to do something different with this piece. I was trying to imitate impressionistic techniques a bit. I do like how it sorta looks like a traditional painting too. :3

This is actually so beautiful. I've never thought of using a veggie patch as inspiration for such a work of art, but this is just awesome. The patches of light breaking through the rainforest-like canopy work so well, it really just gives out an overgrown Jungle/forest vibe.
Love it!
