Description Till some weeks ago I've never worked with a background for my fractal images.
However, I know an interesting background can contribute decisively to a good
picture. At the moment I try out just different techniques to create a background
and to integrate into an image.
This is the second variation of an older image, "Pretty in RED".
You can find the first version here --> [link]

For this image I've changed a lot and added many layers and masks,
all together the image has 37 layer + 18 masks.

Created with Ultra Fractal. No Postwork ecxept the border.
All comments are very welcome and much appreciated.

This is so nice and delicate Denise, great job! I especially love how all the tiny details and textures are spread throughout the whole image so that in every nook and cranny there is something new and interesting to see.

oh WOW this is neat! What immense work, holly cow. You had 18 masks in there to take out all that marbeling. I LOVE how the larger flowers look as though they are painted. So much depth to them. A truely wonderful work of art!

I believe the most masks I needed to add the flowers and bubbles at the areas which were blank.

Thank you very much Jackie for lovely comment and the , I'm honored.
I had just a look at your homework image and I LOVE IT! What I admire especially
in all your images is the effectiveness: Maximum expression with minimum expenditure.
I believe I'm a BIG FAN of you art...hahaha

sharkrey [2006-06-15 22:54:52 +0000 UTC]

Love the background. More than anything else, I want to say that it looks like you are finally starting to understand the power and beauty of UF. You are using techniques that you did not know 6 months ago, and once you understand how UF works, then there is nothing that you can't do, image-wise.

The blue background, while contrasting, helps to harmonize because of it's high luminosity value. The rest of the coloring is analogous, so "safe". The blue background helps bind their relationship...red to orange to yellow to green.

Like all the squiggly's in the background. I would have been tempted to move the gradient control points closer to give the flowers a harder edge, but the softness here works fine too. Artist's choice...

This is going to be the norm for a while, layer wise. While you might come across a few 3-5 layer images you like, I think that generally you are going to compose your images for a while in such a way that 30 to 50 layers will be needed to satisfy you, and on a very heart-felt piece that could bump up to 70, 80, or more.

Don't you LOVE it!!!!

For this one I've used mainly the "trap-shape" mask and this technique is very very very
helpful and it's so easy and many-sided applicable. I suppose that's the first technique which
becomes the second nature to me. It is so much fun to add or remove things or change in a
few points quite directed , or to join an image from different individual parts. But, actually,
I particularly admire Jackie's effectiveness. Her images are often very complicated and are
relative easy in the composition, however, but incredibly effective.
The maximum in expression with a minimum of expenditure.

>>The rest of the coloring is analogous, so "safe"....<<
You have said, I should be more ready to risk by the colour choice. Which colour choice would
correspond to this thought? Can you say it by means of this image?

Actually, the color scheme is very harmonious with this piece. The colors used work well together, so I think trying to upset that just for the sake of adding contrast or whatever would, in this case, do more harm than good.
