Yeah, I do notice some people use Gradients for shading in any Vector/Vexel artwork. I can see how that can work for Cars, but People--not so much. I take it you just tried through Trial & Error until you found something that worked?

i think its always experimenting with every artwork i create... speaking of car illustration in specific i always create a mess first and then pick the route that was the best looking when scetching a color palette or type of shading/reflection. i think the volkswagen would have worked with gradients too, but on one point i chose the flat route
