It's the clock function. Back then, they designed the game to save the clock on a battery. They also poorly functioned it so that the game save file is also saved on the battery. So when the battery is gone? So's the game data you saved T_T

Yup, that's exactly what went wrong... my copy of Silver is tied to the $200 dollars I have saved when Heart Gold and Soul Silver come out as a reminder for what I'm saving it for. (Though I doubt I NEED a reminder... I've been pining over this since they last announced it in what, May?)
