High resolution sprite and disassembly for Hooktail, a gargantuan dragon from Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. My remaster focuses on more of a 2D angle.

The youngest of three siblings and the only female, Hooktail's favorite snack is Koopa Troopa. For many centuries, the red dragon has gorged around the Petalburg area. An incident put on her edge regarding the sound of something that ends in "-icket". Ten years prior, the brave Koopley went to stop her, but he was tricked by Hooktail's strange foot fascination. Years later, Mario, Goombella and Koops went to Hooktail's Castle and slew her once and for all.

Hooktail's only other appearance to date is as a Sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. She was also supposed to appear as the Mario Mash-Up Pack's counterpart to the Ender Dragon in the Nintendo version of Minecraft. Unfortunately, she was removed and replaced with the (admittedly also underused) Gobblegut. Whether her replacement had to do with licensing issues, the eighth gen creative team's aversion to classic Paper Mario, or something else is hard to guess.

You might be wondering why I didn't make more poses for Hooktail. Well, in addition to her, I also remastered her brothers, Gloomtail and Bonetail. It mostly has to do with just how many different parts there are- for each frame of each pose, I would have to replace a whopping 40 pieces in each group. Now that's a giant jump from the around 10 pieces I usually replace whenever I pose enemies with multiple palette swaps. Because of this, like Khairacles and Gooper Blooper, Hooktail and her siblings are only getting the base model and their parts.

Also, I know I said Fruit Shake was after the Lyrars. I just wanted to do something big before the topic began. In my mind, it was getting around to remastering at least some of the monster-type bosses I'd been avoiding up until now.
