High resolution Paper Mario sprites for Lava Bubble AKA Podoboo, as it appears in the eighth gen games Sticker Star and Color Splash, as well as the former’s recut. Also included are Ember and Phantom from Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door.

At the eleventh hour, Bowser, possessed by the dark spirit inside the Gold Royal Sticker, summons Lava Bubbles to scorch Mario every turn. Mario can make them chill out using an ice-type Thing- but not indefinitely. Better get the bewitched Koopa King under control before Lava Bubble breaks out!

These specific Lava Bubbles also appear as normal enemies in Color Splash. They’re so hot, not even Prism Island’s close-range Hammers can touch them. Ice, ice, baby is the way to go! ...just make sure British rockband lawyers aren’t nearby. And if they’re made of fire...why do they have an “outline”, too? That generic big miniboss’ comments (at least, what his interpreter is saying) further muddle the issue.

For the DMZ timeline, things are slightly different. Lava Bubbles retain their look for Sticker Star Recut. In addition, as Paper Mario Relic Hunter was a sequel to both versions of StSt and no specific mention is made of LB’s looks there, it’s easy to conclude they have their eighth gen look in the fangame topic, too.

Color Splash Recut is another story. The second version altered Lava Bubble’s looks, as well as removed the outline just for them. Ember and Phantom were added as well to various locations. In addition, the generic big mini-boss was removed from version one, only to be reinstated as the optional Phantom miniboss Eruptasm in a secret level. There, Eruptasm’s interpreter reveals Prism Island’s enigmatic connection to a far-off fruity land...
