Paper Mario/Mario Story style sprites for Squiggler, a younger Wiggler from New Super Mario Bros DS.

In a secret pipe maze of the secret cloud world during their not-so-secret first new 2D adventure in years, Mario and Luigi encountered some paler Wiggler young roaming around the area. If they thought Goombas were weak, Squigglers were even weaker- they were so weak, they didn’t even give any points when jumped on normally. Squigglers also lacked their older forms’ immunity to Fire Flowers. It’s…kind of sad, actually. You just don’t want to harm them.

Squiggler appeared one/two other times, yet ironically, people might know them more from this appearance. During the main story of Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, a Squiggler oversaw his family farm in Dimble Woods. He was also a hardcore vegan, denying Bowser meat and lecturing him on vegetables. As Bowser Jr’s Journey revealed, this Squiggler had met with Bowser Jr and some of the Koopalings earlier.
