This is a personal piece that started as a remake, but then took a life of its own. It was originally going to be just the environment from a made up oldschool RTS style game, but as I worked on it, I thought it would look a lot cooler if I made it look as if it was an actual in-game screenshot. Sort of a proof of concept: "if you kickstart our game, it could look like this". I really enjoy making game assets, and I'm hoping to make that my bread and butter, so I used this opportunity to really work on my detailed rendering. The idea is that if you cut this up until individual assets, they would all look fairly polished. Was it a great use of my time? Probably not, but after a certain number of hours in, I was determined to finish my original vision.

For the look of the units and the UI, I was inspired by a mix of StarCraft, Halo Wars, Unreal Tournament and space shooters. To show my old school cred, the German names were inspired by old Japanese games/anime: Legend of Galactic, Herzog Zwei, that sort of thing. Jagtider is named after the German Jagdtiger tank from WW2. I didn't put much thought into it; it just sounded cool.

To save some time, the font was found here:www.dafont.com/reqruit-mk-2.fo… , and I heavily modified some open source UI bits from here: opengameart.org/content/golden… . Also thanks to KFCemployee for her awesome brushes: . The grass ones were handy.
