Description Although I'm happy to make more Overwatch art, this actually was supposed to be something completely different. The original idea was a MyLittlePony-Overwatch crossover and in the first sketch Rainbow Dash and Tracer were next to each other and ready to race. The point of view was very different as well.
But then I realized that drawing two completely unrelated characters in relation with each other without messing up the shading and perspective was too difficult for me. Don't understand me wrong, I'm all for challenges and aiming high. It's the only way to make progress as an artist. However, I've also experienced many times in the past that trying the impossible and then failing can be very frustrating and demotivating. Especially if you spend many hours on something without result. At least not in form of a drawing.
So I decided to only draw one of the characters and because Tracer's sketch looked much better I chose her.

The most important thing about being an artist is evolving your skills. I guarantee you that anyone who takes it seriously and draws regularly can become a great artist. And challenging yourself is a very important part in that. And that's why I'll probably try my initial idea for the drawing when I feel I'm ready for it.

The final drawing is a combination of the more comic-style looking Tracer and the very traditional looking environment. One thing I really have problems with is perspective and how the objects react to the point of view. I wanted to use this drawing to evolve my skills in that area so I chose a very extreme perspective in front of Tracer looking directly at her. I really struggled with that but in the end, I'm happy with the outcome.
The shading was fairly normal and I had a lot of fun adding the texture to the leather jacket, pitch, grass, and hair.
I also had many problems with the hands. That pose is just so weird and there aren't many reference pictures for it. The hands alone took probably an eighth of the time, which doesn't sound like a lot but is actually pretty much.

The trees in the background are just to create interest and I'm not really happy with how they look. They just don't look like real trees. Maybe I'll evolve my skills in that area next time.

If you're interested, you can check out a version without linework here . You can also find the high resolution version (7234 x 4069) here .

Cheers, love! The cavalry's here!

Are you allowed to manipulate time in track meets? I feel like Tracer has a bit of an unfair advantage.

I agree with you, anyone who puts the effort into getting better at art can be a great artist.
And I can see what you mean about the perspective and such, this looks incredibly difficult to pull off. I think it looks great though, you did a real nice job with it. The hands are really well done too, so hopefully you feel the time was worth it.
Good luck with improving your skills, and I'm looking forward to the original idea of the drawing if you decide to tackle that later on.

I highly doubt that time manipulation is tolerated in normal sports events. But since Tracer is not really subtle when accelerating her own time it wouldn't be hard to prohibit and control that. But regardless, I'm pretty sure Tracer is easily the fastest even without her special abilities.

Thank you so much for all the kind words. It really means a lot to me.
