Was watching this: [link]Suddenly noticed a startling similarity.
Decided that this is probably canon for any universe where Edgar and Johnny end up bros. (And I do love those universes)

Thought there was canibalism, dunno why.
(sounds like heaven and falling angels to me, but then, you know me)
Hah. I swear, someone on TVtropes was talking about how it was... an early gay literature substitute? Before gay literature existed? Maybe they were crazy.

Well, there is character death, one of which consists of everyone jumping on him and essentially tearing his flesh off in a fit of mad passion.
^^^Spoilers.
Well, it wasn't intended to be gay (it was written in the 50's, when homosexuality was seen as sick sexual deviancy), but with lines like "... Simon shyly stroked Ralph's elbow" that come out of friggin' nowhere (and that's an actual goddamn line in the book, not even kidding), what can you say?

Yep, that has to be it.
You can say "Hello, Ho Yay", and then stare at the screen for an hour while you debate whether any fanfiction for it would squick you to hell and back.

Actually, the fanfiction is not squicky at all, unless it's one of those 'lol theres a girl on the island kool rite', in which case just shoot yourself, because they are about 50% of all the fanfiction online and they uniformly suck.
YES I HAVE READ LOTF FANFICTION AND I AM NOT AFRAID TO ADMIT IT.
And I support Ralph/Simon.
Don't shoot me.

Oh ho? I suppose that sort of makes sense, because mostly only intellectual people are going to read it let alone look it up on fanfic, so, the quality would be caused by that. Like Good Omens.
Pfft. I guess I'll have to read it to know what you're talking about.
Also my sister wants to know why that kid was torn apart. She's being a bit insistant about it.

Eh, some unintellectual girls don't get past "Ralph is a blond boy, almost a teen, and built like a boxer" before they pretty much decide they have to write about themselves with him. So avoid all 'girls on the island' fic. But if it's about insanity, or goes into weirdly deep intercharacter pairings, yeah, it's probably pretty good.
Oh, Simon? Yeah, SPOILERS ahoy, but I'll explain.
So basically, Simon is Jesus - his death comes shortly after he avoids the temptation of forgetting the truth, offered to him in a hallucination by the titular Lord of the Flies(LotF is a direct translation of the Hebrew word Beelzebub, the name of the devil, if the parallels between the two weren't obvious enough already). Simon refuses, and goes to where they saw the 'beast', and realizes that it isn't a monster at all, just the corpse of a parachutist who landed on the island. He realizes that the beast is just something that's been made up by the collective fear of the inhabitants of the island. He goes to tell them.
Meanwhile, Hitler (I mean Jack. I mean Hitler) was like "Y'wanna do an insane godless tribal dance about murder?" and Ralph was like "Sure!" So everyone goes into this insane godless state of mind. Simon chooses that particular moment to run up to everyone and be about to tell them the beast is real - but because they are currently batshit loco, they mistake Simon for the beast and he's slaughtered as a sacrifice - as the devil told him he would. Essentially, he is mistaken for something evil and killed for it, as Jesus was. Expect anything relating to Simon to be incredibly Christian.
Wow, that was long. I'm sorry. That wasn't supposed to happen.

Okay. I didn't read any of that. I'm going to get the book because it sounds boss.
I HAVE BEEN READING SO MUCH SHERLOCK HOLMES OH MY GOD I'M STARTING TO TYPE LIKE YE OLD 1890'S. So I could use something relatively modern.
Dude, Sir Doyle is the bomb. I'm just sayin'.

I have a tendency to ramble when I'm given the chance to talk about symbolism. As long as said symbolism isn't shoved down my throat by an English teacher, anyway.
Yeah, you'll have to get it from the library, there will be like eight million copies and it won't cost ya. Don't get the audio recording, though - it is read by the author, and he does talk a bit at the beginning about writing the book, which is interesting after you've read the book, but he's no actor. It is pretty dull to listen to.
Sherlock Holmes, yus. When I was little, I thought it was Shamrock Holmes, so now I make jokes about him taking cocaine with a pipe, playing the fiddle, and wearing nothing but green. And having red hair. It is a very silly mental image, and I love it so much.

woops. Forgot about this one.
the thing I've just realized about Sherlock Holmes, now after reading Heart of Darkness etc, is that it is SO FREAKING PROGRESSIVE. I mean, interacial marriage, female villains who outwit male supergeniouses? IN 1890? Doyle was a man of the future or something.

IT IS. There's a Cracked.com article about authors who were more badass than their badass characters, and Doyle is on there somewhere. I don't remember if it's for being progressive, but that's probably mentioned in there somewhere.

If it's for something else, I think I need to read it. Now.
I did read somewhere that Doyle was involved in the case that convinced Brittain to have an appeals court. He did something totally Holmsish. I hope that story is true.

The article spends more time talking about his mustache and how he spent his life either writing or being awesome. It's pretty hilarious, but everything on Cracked is. They are just wonderful.

You know who's not awesome? The Hanna fandom on 4chan. Which is sad because it was like the only wank-free fandom for a year. Maybe more. And now it's CRUMBLING and I NEED A HUG OR SOMETHING.
Never browse 4chan late at night. Truly, Anonymous is Not Your Friend.

The Hanna fandom was probably never wank-free, man, there is no such thing as a wank-free fandom*. I'm sorry to ruin everything you've ever loved like this.
And man, I have basically been fixing everyone's problems with hugs recently. I am like the hug-doctor who gives out hugs like they were over-the-counter medication at a Rite-Aid. Or any convenience store, really. I don't really want to elaborate on this metaphor. Bottom line, I am all hugged out, except that none of these hugs are for me, they are for everyone else and everyone else's problems. Goddamnit why do I have so many depressed/suicidal friends. High school sucks.
*Except for the Bartimaeus trilogy, I don't think there's any wank for that. And I don't want there to be. But now my curiosity is piqued and I have to go check on FF.net. DAMMIT.

Oh, bb. You sound just like my sister. Aparently cool people attract depression and angst like magnets. HOW DOES THAT WORK. Luckily, the worst of that clusterfuck should blow over by the end of eleventh grade. for now, I guess you're stuck with the burden of awesome? (they have you talking them down off ledges yet?)
Here, have a hug. It's in spirit.

Oh hooray, hugs! It's wonderful.
Nah, but I've pried razors out of hands. It is kind of seriously awful, and I really wish I didn't have to do it. But you know what? Someone has to. And considering I have probably the fewest problems of all my friends, it's me. I have too much awesome, man, and just nowhere to put it or something. At least I can use it to remind my friends that I still love 'em.
