I would see Hiccup as sort of a good version of Pitch. He manipulates shadow, but he does not give nightmares. Instead, he keeps darkness in check.

sort of yeah, he's only darkness because he was lonley and unwanted, so it created that darker aspect of his heart and bam, shadows.

Just a pity that Hiccup looks depressed (due to the darkness tear on his cheek) and Jack looks tired because of the shape of his eyes mostly.

well, hiccup is kind of shadow to fit his personality, he was usually outed from society and that would lead to loneliness and depression, thus he is the shadow. Also, that's just dark dripping out of him, it's like those ghosts with the crying blood thing. Jack's eyes I was trying to fit his actual eye shape, but if you were frozen to death you would look pretty tired too.

Yeah, I'm not saying it doesn't fit, it's just a pity in a way that the two males seem so 'negative' compared to the females who look awake/alert and serene/calm, respectively. But in that sense, you're taking the balance even further to include 'Tired and Awake' and 'Depressed and Tranquil' between there individual pairs.
It's also ironic that Jack fought Pitch but will work with Hiccup, both of whom are personifications of darkness. But while Pitch was fear and despair (but mostly fear), Hiccup is embracing, accepting, seeing that which light cannot be cast upon (like the hearts of man and beast and finding a friend in the latter). No, more accurately, I'd say that Hiccup is courage to Pitch's fear, to blindly go on without light, guide or hope (and let's face it, he was close to hopeless before he met Toothless).
Now, who do you ship here? There's the usual fire&ice and light&dark, but you also could go with how they're arranged with a 'hot summer night' and 'sunny winter morning'.

Yep! It all kind of fits into the personas and opposites and so on. Which is kind of funny because I just kind of threw it together in chem.
Well, there isn't supposed to be any ships in this, but I pretty much ship any possible pairing with the big four. Mainly I ship hiccupXjack and meridaXrapunzel and i'm really iffy by meridaXhiccup because of historical reasons.

tech? maybe if it was a modern AU but otherwise i like to associate him with darkness because he was pretty alone and unwanted for a long time and he made friend's with the enemy's 'dark dragon' and so on.
