Hiari loved her husband Wachiru, until he opened their marriage and started taking other wives and having cubs with them. Nothing she could do could change his mind and she spends her life as his main wife, but having to watch her husband bring home other lionesses and have litters with them, some of which being her own sister and cousins. Malka is her only child by choice, as Hiari kept her relationship with Wachiru strictly political, not wanting any other cubs by him.
