Description
Halisi ("truth" in Swahili) is the daughter of Chane and Subira, the sister of Afiya and Zahra, the mate of Akili, and the mother of Fatia and Askari.Halisi is the firstborn of Chane and Subira's three daughter's, born in a litter that consist solely of herself. And it's a good thing, too, because the sheer size of her nearly kills the petite Subira. But both Subira and Halisi survive, and the new kingdom breaths a collective sigh of relief.
The dynasty is secured.
However, as Halisi grows, whispers amongst the animals go from relief to concern as rogue after rogue challanges Chane. And while Chane is easily able to fight them off, the animals aren't so sure his daughter will be able to as well, even though it seems she has inherited his massive size and bulk. Thus the kingdom begins to demand the King and Queen try again for a new heir, this time a male.
Subira is furious. How dare those fools believe her little girl cannot handle a couple of riff raffs, just because she doesn't sport a mane? Already the little lioness is beating cubs twice her age in wrestling matches. Surely she'll be a great fighter as well as a great ruler!
But Chane, having been the one doing the actual fighting, worries for the safety of his little girl. Maybe the animals of the kingdom are right. After all, some of the rogues he has fought have been pretty vicious. There have been a few moments where even he has thought he might not make it out alive.
Thus, he agrees to the animals demands, much to Subira's anger. At first she refuses to mate with him, stating that Halisi is more that enough, but Chane argues that rogue males are more vicious than she realizes, and that they could do more to Halisi than just kill her if they get a hold of her.
Eventually Subira relents, but on one condition - if the next cub or cubs they have are female, that's it. No more. Halisi will rule, and Chane will simply have to deal with it and prepare her the best he can. Chane agrees, and as their next mating produces a set of two girls, Chane begrudgingly keeps his word, much to the anger of the animals. Though in the back of his mind, he always kept thinking of ways he could make sure the throne is just a little bit more secure for Halisi, just a little bit more safe. It won't be until he's about ready to pass on the throne that he comes up with the idea to pass it to all three daughters.
As for Halisi herself, she never once doubted that she could lead the Pride Lands as Queen. Even after receiving some nasty scars to her face and losing sight in one of her eyes to a pair of leopards (causing them to be banned from the Pride Lands by Chane), she never doubted in her ability to rule, even if others did. Halisi worked hard to show others that she could be just as good as any male and that she could live up to her father's legacy. She made sure she knew all the different animals that lived in the the Pride Lands, she was a brilliant fighter, and she was great at diplomacy. She was everything a ruler had to be and more.
So why did everyone still believe she wasn't fit to rule?
Even her own father did not believe in her, as he proved when he stepped down from the throne and passed down his crown to not one, but all three of his daughters, clearly believing Halisi couldn't handle the task on her own. Halisi fumed, but didn't speak out against her father's final decree as King. If it would make the animals feel safer, then fine. Let there be three Queens. But let it be known that out of the three, she was the one that held the most power. That, as the eldest and most experienced of them, she would be the final say on anything.
Afiya was fine with this. She was always a sort of follower, never really wanting the responsibility of ruling a kingdom. Their fragile white sister, Zahra, on the other hand, was not.
Having always been cooped up for her entire life, she wanted the freedom to finally be someone and do something. Now that their parents were retired and that she was a Queen, technically they couldn't stop her from leaving Pride Rock and going wherever she wanted and doing whatever. Not anymore. But Halisi would not let her small white sister do so. Not only did she have no experience what-so-ever, she believed what her parents had told her that Zahra was sickly and fragile, and should not leave the den other than to travel to the watering hole or for very brief moments of fresh air when the sun is at it's weakest.
Thus, like her parents before her, she forbids Zahra from leaving the den for her safety. Zahra is absolutely furious, but Afiya backs her up, so the third of the three Queens cannot do anything but stew in her anger alone.
Thus, Halisi becomes the face of the Triple Queen's reign, ruling with a kind but firm paw, and when the time comes for her and her sisters to step down, she gladly hands the throne to her daughter, Fatia, and her nephew and Fatia's mate, Tajiri.

I imagine Askari as the first king's brother myself

I always imagined the Guard being something formed after the First King but not to long after. Something that wasn’t exactly needed at first when the kingdom was small and practically unheard of, but is needed as it gets bigger, more well known, and thus harder for the current ruler to protect on their own.

Well, Zuri is (distantly) related to her through Scar (as her father is Mheetu, Scar's son). Wouldn't be surprising if Halisi's attitude and looks popped up down the line some generations later.
