Description
Dear friends, members, visitors,On the journey to establish our own identity and our own presence in the design community we come to a final design for our logo identity. I'm sure many of you thought that the first logo concept was awesome and we'd stop there. While the first one was indeed awesome, it wasn't quite functional as a logo.
So Β°liquisoft , =russoturisto and the rest of the dC Core Team embarked on the journey together to decide dC's final logo design. In the presentation, you'll see 3 stages.
Ryan's Concept:
His concept was the backbone to our final design. Ryan managed to design the 'couch' in a simple, iconic and stylish manner with wings to represent designers'COUCH. We loved this. It was a great concept and well executed. However, we wanted more. We also thought the wings was somewhat cliche' even though it was stylishly executed.
Igor's Concept:
^depthskins came up with the idea of merging style. =russoturisto has a very unique style to his design and so does Ryan. So we thought we'd give it a shot. Igor played on Ryan's idea of the simple iconic couch. He built upon it and did what we call, 'a reinvention' of Ryan's brilliant concept. His style added to it just made it shit in our opinion and he losed the wing.
In addition to the 'couch' symbol, Igor wanted to give the typography a shot designing a font from scratch in a simple stylish manner. It's very different from his usual work and shows he can work outside his usual style. We loved the font and Igor is currently working on developing the entire typeface. Wicked huh? Yes, dC's very own custom font.
However, we made a mistake with this entire project, a mistake that was hard to work around but had to be done. Given we already had a winning site design, we had to use a font that works best with it so the site design constrained our choice a bit. So we went with Ryan's simple, elegant look for the typography.

Symbol Breakdown:
One reason we loved this was Igor's rationale to his design. He simply thought to be a design king one must grow like a flower. Both a 'crown' and a 'flower' is represented in the logo to make up the 'couch' symbol. We all know that's Igor's style he's famous for and he pulled it off nicely.
So there you have it, 1 step forward into dC's future and guess what, it looks BRIGHT.

brilliant!!!
the only critique i have are the cut-offs on the e s n and s. why are they rounded while all the other ends of the letters are straight (sorry for my bad english, i hope you get my point).
i love the type you used, is that helvetica?
all in all, very good logo, fav!!!
weiter so!!!

*note this post contains some really critical questions, cant handle criticism? stop reading.
sum questions;
Why the typical couch form, why not a styled down couch, that represents the word ''designer'' better? (right top does a good job)
Why the flower, growth is always good, but does it have to be a flower, nothing more original?
Why the little story, about explaining how a symbol works, It would have been so much more fun if i could have figured out myself that its actually a crown, a sofa, and a flower(?) in one. See it as a little reward for the guy that takes the time to look at a logo.
like *smilincadaver* pointed out, why the really slim-designy-looking letters next to a big fat retro looking couch?
If i was new to the concept ''designers couch'' and this would be the first time id see this logo, id probably think it would be a store were i could buy retro looking couches. (this is not the case with the original logo, probably because of the used font.)
''Grow like a flower to be design king''? growth is important as a designer will have to adjust daily in his job to bring a message to the public as good as possible, but why would i want to grow like a flower, to be the best? flowers die.
The old DClogo represented DesignersCouch so much better, the actually couch symbol doesnt really add value to the logo.
Few last notes, I really love the fonts used, real good job... If there was a process in developing this couchlogo i would really wish to see it somehow, like sketches? or any writen down discussions on what kind of ideas the designer had? Dont get me wrong, I love looking at the logos, and its visually of high quality, im not a bad person, just wanted to get this of my chest.
Finally, good job.

thanks, yes flowers die... but their lifelength isnt as long as a human life. What I tryed to say was, being a king is forever, beyond the grave... so in someway, growth is forever (look at famous artists). But this is just way to deep, ill keep quiet now

The logo is an illusion! when staring at it, the white gaps in it look like they are grey. nice work.

the sofa has many bold features while the typo is so slim, i think it's unbalanced, is so much heavyer to the left; the font is awesome but doesn't relates to the the sofa at all and that line between the type and the sofa is seriously burnt out, kinda clichΓ© and its overused. The final one is really stylish and pretty but looks a little bit corporate to me, the old one may be saturated but talks more about design than the new one. I'll keep the old one with the crown, its great the relation with a flower and a crown. BUT THAT'S JUST ME!

You may have a point, but I feel that the volume of the text being so much larger helps to create a sense of balance.

ok, maybe if you place the sofa up instead of sideway it'll be more balanced. congrats on your new logo!
