Thank you. I liked the way the colors brought out certain details within the spiral...normally, I don't use mauves and pinks, etc., but this fractal begged for those colors!

Thanks, Sophia. I think you would have fun with it. It's not an easy program, but I started with ChaosPro (a killer to use, full of bugs), which had UF fractal parameters in it. So I was familiar with a lot of stuff when I opened up UF...it's like a cleaned up, polished, and helpful version of ChaosPro. I like the tutorial!

Thank you so much! That was one of my first fractals I got out of UF. I looked at some of their examples (that came with the program), then modeled what I wanted based on what was already there; I added quite a bit, so it looked quite different from the example. It was nice to have a starting place like that, something to build upon.

No, it's happened before. It's when you get those wonderful little freebies in life that you never, ever expected! Usually, that happens in photography when I see a great subject AND have the camera, but I guess there's no reason it can't happen with fractals, too.

Oh Jean, this is beautiful! I love your choice of colors and the delicate shapes.

and ooooooooo do I see that you used UF? When did you sneak out and get that program? hehe I think you will really enjoy working with it. Your already well on your way to making fantastic fractals with it, your prior knowledge of all the other programs will really help. I am far from an expert but if I can help you with anything, dont hesitate to ask. You know how to find me hehe

desmo100 In reply to MooseCall [2006-12-12 19:09:12 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much, Kim. I've been working with UF a couple of days now, and I'm sure glad I had some experience with ChaosPro (which has a lot of UF formulas in it). It's difficult in some ways, but it makes layering so easy! You can't NOT do layers in UF, it's so much fun. It's a very user friendly software in most respects, but basically, there's still an awful lot for me to learn. If I get stuck on something, I'll holler. Right now I'm reveling in spirals! Love them so much!

MooseCall In reply to desmo100 [2006-12-12 19:25:03 +0000 UTC]

The help files are wonderful if you havent taken a peek already. Be sure to update your formulae regularly and do so right off the bat if you havent already. Its addicting and fun, I cant wait to see what else you create with it!

desmo100 In reply to MooseCall [2006-12-12 23:19:42 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, Kim. Yah! I sure did update those formulas. And I intend to rely heavily on the help files. I already went through the tutorial with the 'masked julia'; but I would like to go over the parts about masking again. THat's very important to know, I think. I've created a bunch of things, but I don't want to bombard the gallery...I'll post them one or two at a time!

MooseCall In reply to desmo100 [2006-12-15 20:30:10 +0000 UTC]

bah upload to your hearts content! Im excited to see your stuff.

Masking can really help with adding or removing parts to your pics. Its not the easiest thing in the world to learn but once you start to get the hang of it its wonderful what you can do with it. It still isnt intuitive to me 100%, I seem to stutter and stammer with it a bit and fiddle more than I would like to get masking to work just right for me, and thats even after taking Janets classes on it lol. Im glad to have the foundation for it though. If I can ever be of help let me know. The online UF classes are VERY worth it if you find that this is a generator you wish to use a lot of and want to use it better. I found that they were wonderful classes and very well priced.

desmo100 In reply to MooseCall [2006-12-15 21:00:50 +0000 UTC]

I like the "discovery process" that goes with new software. I'm going to work with masking very soon, and start taking that part of it seriously. I'm sure that would be a powerful tool to have! Eventually, I might take Janet's class!

MooseCall In reply to desmo100 [2006-12-15 21:30:27 +0000 UTC]

It is a lot of fun to learn UF. There are still soooo many formulae Ive never tried. Its got sooo much to it. Your doing great with it, y our past experience with all the other generators is really paying off and its prolly a lot simplier for you than it was me having mostly only used apop and tierazon prior. Janets classes are wonderful fun, she has a big heart and vast knowledge. Its not daunting to take the classes at all and its there for hobbiests and proffessionals alike, all are equal and its just a good environment. I can get you the link to the web page for class info if you want, just let me know

desmo100 In reply to MooseCall [2006-12-16 00:25:02 +0000 UTC]

I think that learning things via ChaosPro is "trial by fire." THat program is rich with all the formulas the UF has, but it's full of bugs and crashes all the time....used to drive me nuts! At least UF is a sound, user-friendly program! I think I could fool around with this the rest of my life!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MooseCall In reply to desmo100 [2006-12-16 21:40:57 +0000 UTC]

hehe I agree with that entirely. It took me by storm and stole my heart and mind. I still dabble some with apop or the others but Im never as satisfied with what I make with those programs as I am with UF.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

desmo100 In reply to MooseCall [2006-12-17 01:20:55 +0000 UTC]

I can understand that. I got to a point where I just don't really want to do Apo any more...the serious challenges are in UF!
