Description
I knew I had to make my own version of that one dinosaur with the crest around it's head so here she is! The Viola Pygmy Dragon, but you can call her the Viola Hortensis Pygmy Dragon. Viola Hortensis is literally taken from the latin name for a Pansy, which obviously inspired this gals crest. I had a lot of fun making her colours look alien and giving her a swamp surrounding since I imagined her belonging to a swamp like environment. I also tried a more simplistic style for her eyes, and there's no other source of light in this drawing besides her eyes and the yellow bands on her crest. Anyway! Below is her info;
Name: Pansy (Viola Hortensis) Pygmy Dragon
Size (From Foot to Head): 30 cm - 40 cm
Habitat: Marshes, Swamps, Rainforests, Wetlands
Diet: Carnivore
Movement Style: Flightless Dragon, very fast on land
Gender Variation: The colours on it's eyebrows indicate it's gender, males having a bold red brow and females having a more pink brow, the one pictured is a female.
Type of young: Egg
Mating Season: June
A swamp dwelling little reptile, this cute and endearing creature is a skittish and weak kind, while it's appearence spells dangerous, she is relatively weak to larger animals. This little creature hunts down small animals like frogs, mice and turtles, and she has a high intellect to skillfully track and kill these smaller critters so she can eat them. Her radiant glowing crest is only visible to her own kind, a special kind of light emitted so only their eyes can detect and notice it, and it plays a crucial role in helping her navigate the dark lands she resides in, as she is mostly a nocturnal creature. The light helps her see prey and predator from a distance, and also see others of her kind that may be invading her land. When she feels threatened, she rattles her crest, making a loud hissing like noise, which most animals are naturally scared of. However, if the one threatening her is large, she quickly runs away instead. She does unfortunately reside near the bottom of the food chain, but her species is well populated and also a popular pet amongst humans for how easy they are to tame compared to other dragons. Offer them some food and they'll associate you with good things, quickly bonding to you, just be sure you can keep up with their ferocious diet. If they get too hungry, they'll become grumpy. Males and females form very strong relationships, staying together their entire lives and having offspring which normally live beside them as well until they find their own mates. They go hunting together and sleep together, and there have been recordings of male and male pairs, and vise versa. It seems like forming bonds with those of their own kind comes commonly. They display a vast variety of different expressions to communicate with, from angry, sad and to happy, joyful. It is rare they'll fight with each other seriously, and if a tresspasser comes they are normally chased off without conflict. Males and females do play fight to hone their skills however.
