Description
The forest was becoming darker and darker and the sense of being lost was reaching to the surface of your mind more and more with every passing second. The olive and almond trees had been replaced with towering conifer ones that barely let the sunrays lighten your path. You didn’t know how much time you were running; you were feeling disoriented and the idea of losing Atem forever, which so desperately fought against, was making your heart sink.Suddenly, you stopped. Your legs were numb from all the run and your mouth gasped for air greedily. However, your lungs didn’t enjoy the oxygen for long, because you started yelling the young Pharaoh’s name till you empty them again. There was no response. In the end, you kneeled down. Tears started falling on the dark green grass and sobs filled the area.
“A-atem…no… don’t go…” you stammered.
Footsteps were echoed in this distance. You didn’t listen to them due to your gulps and sobs.
They were getting louder. You raised your head to their direction. From the distance a woman-shaped figure was becoming clear to your sight. When the figure came even closer to you, your puffy eyes met a pair of brown orbs.
“T-theonoe…?” you muttered her name trying to realize that it was really her.
She gave you a heart-warming smile, like she used to do in the past when you were feeling sad, and sat down in front of you. Slowly, she tended her arm and touched your shoulder. Still dumbfounded by her mysterious appearance, you didn’t react at her moves. They were searching the whole Egypt- in order to bring her to you and Atem- but now, there she is!
“(Y/n)… I know you have many things to ask me; and you’re, probably, very mad at me b-”
“I, indeed, have a lot of question!” you cut her. “But even if you answer them, that won’t guarantee me they come out others. So please; let them be… I know they are hiding more despair and agony for my friends and myself.” you lowered your head. “Also, I was never mad at you. I was rather disappointed, because –when I recalled my past- you were hiding the truth for a long time.”
“But…”
“Don’t tell me pour excuses!” your gaze became, suddenly, strict. “You are one of the closest people I’ve had! Don’t tell me you forget it in all that havoc?”
Tears started welling from the seeress’ eyes. Without a second thought she hugged you and you, immediately returned the hug. She caressed your (h/c) hair, while she was trying to hold her sobs. Then, you broke the heavy silence with your soft voice.
“Theonoe, please, don’t cry… if you hadn’t casted the curse upon me, I would have never met him…”
She calmed herself a tad, when she heard that.
“Right…” she replied hesitantly and slowly stood up.
You did the same and asked her if she had seen Atem.
“I didn’t see him. However, I could send you to him.” was her reply and started walking.
“Oh; thank gods!” you exclaimed happily and you followed her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a ten minute long walk together with Theonoe, the forest from its scary and imposing appearance, started to change into a lively atmosphere. The almond trees replaced the towering conifer ones and an optimistic feeling embraced your soul. A soothing breeze blew from behind sending many tree blossoms away.
Taken away from the scene, Theonoe stopped and glanced at you with a nostalgic look.
“I miss the days when everything was peaceful, my child…” she said rising her head a little bit up.
“But since, it was the gods’ wish… who am I to stand against them?”
“Don’t say that Theonoe!” you replied. “You stood against them and saved me from a horrible demise!”
She nodded.
“I haven’t faced the consequences yet for opposing them… they might be very horrible…” she begun to monologue, “however, I’m not a terrible person to deserve a heavy punishment, unlike that tyrant back then.”
You grimaced at the remembrance of that monster.
“So here I am gods!” she shouted facing the sky. “Give me the punishment, you believe, I deserve! But, I’m begging you to protect my beloved (Y/n) and his husband Atem! Save them from any other tragedy, that has yet to come and let them live happily and peaceful in the land of Nile!”
After her pray, numerous petals surrounded you and they were blocking your sight.
Confused, you attempted to ask her what’s going on, but she shouted first at you a wish before you disappear.
“You’ve got my best wishes for a happy life and I hope you’ll be blessed with a young heir soon!”
You blushed when she said that and a white light blinded you. You were heading to Atem.
~~~~~~
Obelisk with his gigantic fist hit with all his might a huge red sphere of energy, which had him as target. A blast rocked the area around the blue-skinned god, rising dust and destroying even more the buildings around him. Atem covered his face with arm and nailed him feet on the ground, in order to not be tossed away like a sack.
The fight between the goddess of love and catastrophic dark aqua god was at level for a long time and Atem, now, was testing his limits.
‘If she keeps this up like that, I won’t make it!’ he thought.
Suddenly, he felt his whole body by painfully pushed back. Without realizing what happened, he found himself on the ground losing touch with surroundings slowly. He tried to stand up; no luck. His body was numb and the blackness was conquering his sight more and more with the passing second.
‘No! I must find (Y/n)!’ he yelled in his mind and attempted to stand up once again.
No luck.
Then, a cry of anguish was heard and a small earthquake shook the area. Obelisk fall, since the Pharaoh had been knocked out.
“(Y-Y/n)… I-I’m sorry…” he stammered depressed.
He believed this is the tragic end of all; until he felt- with his remaining consciousness- a warm pair of arms embracing him. With the last power he had, Atem struggled to open his eyes. When he achieved that, a spark of hope shone in his heart.
“(Y-Y/n)…” he weakly murmured and smiled at you, before he blacks out in your arms.
~~~~
You caressed his cheek and took some of his hair strands away from his handsome face. Then, you kissed his forehead and laid him down carefully. You stood up with and starred furiously at the goddess of love, who had seen the whole scene- from your magical appearance to that caring moment.
“You can stop playing around with us.” You said with the most serious face you could form.
“What do you mean?” she questioned pretending she knew nothing.
“The curse is no more and you clearly know that!” you shouted at her. “The main purpose of it was to ensure a better fate and that happened! Why are trying to take that all away? That was the reason Theonoe summoned you and caused all those trouble…” you made a pause, looked on the ground and clenched your fists, before you spat out, “and this how you repay her?”
“Watch your words mortal!” she warned.
“I’m trying to open your eyes, remind you the reason you’re here, and this your reaction? Then, I have nothing else to say, but humans should never call you goddess of love, because you simply take it away!”
When you said those things you turned your gaze to Atem, who was still lying down on the ground unconscious. Venus remained silent for a minute, which seemed like a century. She rested her right cheek on her right palm and a smirk was curved on her lips, which was followed by a giggle, then by maniacal laugh. When she was done, she looked her evil gaze with your fearful one and yelled.
“How naïve you are!”
With a quick move a huge red glowing beam was directed to hit you. Not only, she was going to kill you, but this beam was gigantic enough to eviscerate everything to its path, even Atem!
The idea that you will die, occurred on your mind once again. Everything started moving in slow motion. You released that fear had paralyzed you, even if you were able to move; the beam was too fast to be avoided. You were able to hear your quick heartbeat; you closed your eyes and muttered your last words.
“I will love you forever Atem…”
However, the unbearable pain of death on your body didn’t come close to you at all. That made you wonder what happened. While you had your eyes still shut, a deafening “boom” and raging roar, that could scare millions of soldiers away, made the whole area shake violently.
You opened your eyes to see, what’s going on. Your eyes widened when you saw a long, red and black scaled tail protecting you, like a fortress wall. You lifted your head up to make sure to whom that tail belonged to. Your eyes widened from the excitement, when you saw the Slifer the Sky Dragon.
‘If Slifer is here, that means…’ you thought and turned your head to him.
Your (e/c) orbs shone bright from happiness, when you glanced at the- now awake- young Pharaoh, who was sitting on his knees and trying to control the ferocious god. You ran to his place to help him. You passed his right arm around your head and helped him stand up. He gave you a thankful smile and you responded with your reassuring one.
Then, you glared the goddess of love, who was looking at you dumbfounded, with a threatening look. Atem spoke first.
“Don’t forget, we have unfinished business! I may be physically weak now, but nothing will stop me from protecting the ones I love!”
Slifer rose from the ground and roared menacingly to the scarlet glowing goddess. She attempted to keep her most bland expression in place, in front of her enemy.
‘Darn it...’ she thought, ‘I underestimated this Pharaoh. If Obelisk gave me a hard time, I won’t be able to cope with him. Hphm, it looks like I have to end this…’
She walked towards you. Considering the idea she will attack you, Atem was about to order an attack, but Venus interrupted him.
“I won’t fight you anymore.”
“Why should we believe that, after what you’ve done!” you spat.
“Let me explain, first, and later if you still want to attack me.”
You and Atem looked at each other and then, nodded positively at her.
“My curse’s main purpose is to give a prominence to the couples’ true love. Theonoe had casted the curse upon you, long before you two met.
You arched an eyebrow in question.
“She had a vision -years ago- that Atem will be a possible suitor, (Y/n). However, she never mentioned it, for two reasons. First, it was a very blurry vision back then and she was very doubtful, if this was going to come true and second, she didn’t want to excite your parents with the thought of marriage. When, the day of crisis came to your city-state, she sent you to Egypt with hope to meet him. That was moment she took the risk. Before, she loaded you up on a carriage with destination the land of Nile, she casted upon you this curse with one and only hope to live a happy life.”
“I don’t get it; where are you trying to end up?”
“It was meant to meet, but was the love you felt each other true?”
“My love for (Y/n) was, is and will be true! Why are you saying all of these things?” Atem said with a small impatient tone, in the end of his sentence.
“Words can be deceiving, Pharaoh; that’s why my curse has two stages. First stage brings out the loyalty you harbor for each other. In order to bring that out, I and Theonoe had to…”
“Erase my memories…” you completed her sentence, feeling a bitter taste in your mouth while saying it.
“Exactly!” she exclaimed. “You and Atem passed this stage so easily and that’s why, immediately, proceeded to the second one: the stage of self-sacrifice, which Theonoe didn’t know.”
“Why?”
“Because, in this stage I step in- personally- and put the lovers into very tough situations that no mortal can handle. If the couple survives the challenge I’ve settled, they are guaranteed to live happily ever after together. If not… they die in the process…”
“So… the duel between us was a self-sacrifice challenge, wasn’t it?” the violet-eyed Pharaoh asked.
“Yes. And you’ve proven how much you care about lady (Y/n)!”
“Wait!” you interfered, “That means I have to be judged with the self-sacrifice challenge, too!”
“I was going to test you, when you were back to the endless forest, but your friend found out and made me change the plan about you a tad.” The goddess responded.
“You mean… Theonoe?” you stammered.
“Yes; somehow she manage to teleport her consciousness to the place you were, even though, I casted a temporary sleeping spell on her. Because of her interference, I had to improvise…”
“Improvise? You mean shoot me with a deadly beam?” you cocked an eyebrow.
“Ehh… something like that…” she replied scratching the back of her head innocently.
Her ‘awkward and innocent’ reaction made you and Atem shoot her a death glare.
‘She’s got some nerve to act like an innocent girl, after everything she’s done to us…’ you thought.
When Venus’ was done chuckling, she wore a serious, yet happy, expression on her face.
“I think I’ve talked enough. It’s time to send you back to Egypt- the real Egypt.” When she mentioned the land of the Pharaohs, the catastrophic background cracked and vanished into a white nothingness. You didn’t, even, had the time to be surprised with all that. She continued to talk. “Your friends are worrying sick about you… you don’t want that, do you?”
You glanced at each other for a minute, then turned back to her and nodded positively.
“Okay. Send us back home.” Atem said.
“Yes please.” you followed.
She smiled at you. Then, she tended towards her indexes and touched the center of your foreheads. The next thing you felt was a tense jolt. As fast as it came, as fast as you woke up, in the bedroom you and Atem had been put in.
The first thing your eyes saw was the surprised face of Therapontas. His shouts blessings to gods were heard to –almost- the whole palace. When you and Atem got up from the bed, all the high priests were gathered to the room. Everybody was happy that moment, except form priest Seto, who informed that Theonoe escaped somehow. You and Atem tried to persuade him not to start an investigation to track her down, because she gave you a hand to return back.
Finally, the young king of Egypt and you could live a life of tranquility together.
