"December, a month I will never forget for it was the first time I recall crying. All my long years passed without regret until that day in December. One might think of Angels, Deities and divine beings as perfect but we are not perfect and it is best we remember this so that we are not lost completely to ourselves. One night in December I reminded myself of my imperfection.

I walked down a city street, which city I do not recall, I had been down many streets in many parts of the world that night alone. It was cold, I could see my breath on the frigid winter air. My job was not to be a guardian, I was a remover of evil spirits, a chaser of fallen creatures that hid within human shells, so why I took it upon myself that night to try and be one, I'll never know. I heard the scream on the wind, so very faint, so very tiny. A child.

I could hear the terror in her voice. I had passed so many people before tonight, heard so many screams I had to force myself to ignore that it sickened me now to think of doing it again. Tonight, I couldn't. I couldn't walk away from those screams, those tearful cries of fear. Down narrow passageways and long alleys I went, listening and looking. A frightful little house sat wedged between two old and decrepit buildings and from within came the screams. I walked in silently as a foul disgrace of a human being sat hovering over a child's body.

The little girl had been wounded fatally already but she was still alive, waiting helplessly for the ingrate to have his way with her. I saw within his soul and mind his twisted and horrible dreams, his fantasies. I saw how many he had killed before, how he had defiled them as they sat helplessly in terror as he did so. I saw the eyes of that little girl... she looked right at me even though I was sure that she could not see me... and she pleaded for help.

Her soul slipped, so quickly... she was gone and I felt a hatred and rage I had never before felt. She was free, walking with Da'ath to another life but the pain her death would leave behind, the fact she would never be able to live the life she once had again... the pointless feverish pleasure this man received from her death... I couldn't stand it. I pulled a knife from the block on the counter and... I killed him.

I knew that all heaven saw me do it, I wouldn't deny it. I didn't even feel sorry for it. I left the shack and walked and walked until I was lost somewhere in the light drifts of new snow now falling from the sky...and I cried. I fell to my knees and wondered how I had come to this, how I could have allowed myself to fall so far and I cried for the girl and the man and his wretched existence on this planet.

I felt as if the eyes of my creator had closed on me, I felt so alone. No arms to hold me, no words to console me, I sat and let the snow fall around me, watched as it melted on my blood stained hands. I would be punished for this act and I was glad, for what good is an Angel who was dead inside? I knew it when I followed that cry, I knew it when I pushed the cold blade into the man who fought his own demons every day.... I knew now as I sat and cried tears I had never cried.

I was dead inside.
