Description Well this has been a long time comming. So by popular demand, here's my first tutorial ever! In this tutorial, I demonstrate my approach to to making a TFA design. I hope you guys don't mind that I used as an example. I would have made an all new design all together, but I've just been so busy with exams and I wanted to get this out there.

I hope you guys learned something and will be able to use this tutorial! If you do use this, please let me know and credit me in your description.

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND DOWNLOADING AT FULL VIEW TO BE ABLE TO READ.

Happy Remembrance day too. Lest we forget.

Destron23 In reply to Crystalwolfdog7 [2014-11-11 00:32:24 +0000 UTC]

Why is it hard to do door wings in this style?

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Crystalwolfdog7 In reply to Destron23 [2014-11-11 23:33:57 +0000 UTC]

because i draw door wings too sharp so when i draw a tfa oc it just ,for me, does not fit in a certain way

Is it possible for you to do your anime-coloring style tutorial? :3

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Destron23 In reply to Keabun [2013-08-31 21:37:57 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, could you be a tad more specific? XD

I actually suggest you attend one of my streams sometime, you'll probably learn more there than off a traditional tutorial.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Keabun In reply to Destron23 [2013-08-31 23:02:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I would love to but I seem to always manage to miss live streams. Are you going to do a stream anytime soon?

Oh and by anime style I mean your blurry coloring. Like for example how you did in the switch meme recently. ^^

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Destron23 In reply to Keabun [2013-08-31 23:52:45 +0000 UTC]

Aww... Hmmm... I'm unsure, it's really based on if I have a certain thing to work on or not.

Ā

Well for that you go about colouring normally, then you collapse your character's lines and colours together into one layer. You duplicate this single layer and on the duplicated version you go to blurr, Gaussian blurr, then you adjust it to how blurry you want it to be. Once that's done, you reduce the opacity of the blurry layer, and voila! You have yourself a blurred colour style! XD

Ā

I actually learned of that trick here: fav.me/d1h5b28Ā  fav.me/d1h5c8pĀ (It talks about this in the last paragraph of part 2).

Sweet tutorial. I only recently got the hang of hands, and I just started colouring them, but in a different technique to you (mainly in that I have the colour and the shaded version of said colour on different layers, the latter over the former). I only just noticed how the stripes on Rattletrap's chest call back to the Transmetal Rattrap. I love all that amalgamated design stuff!

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Destron23 In reply to Tha-C [2011-11-12 02:12:27 +0000 UTC]

Really? I can't seem to spot the stripes on transmetal Rattrap, unless you mean his rib cage.

merrypaws [2011-11-11 22:53:55 +0000 UTC]

It's a great tutorial, but the font size and color are giving me a bit of an eyestrain. It would be much more user-friendly if the text was a bit larger and done in say, plain white.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Destron23 In reply to merrypaws [2011-11-11 23:14:19 +0000 UTC]

Thanks.
I guess I agree that the font is too small at regular view, but it's meant to be seen at full view from a download. I guess I agree with the colour too, but I'm just too tired to change it right now. lol

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

merrypaws In reply to Destron23 [2011-11-12 05:36:35 +0000 UTC]

If you'll forgive me for being painfully honest here, there's simply so much UNUSED SPACE on the tutorial that the size it shows in the fullview would be perfectly adequate if you'd made the font a bit larger and clipped some of the extra space from the edges.
The download is so big it doesn't even fit on my laptop screen, width-wise.

But, like I said, it's otherwise a very nice tutorial, which I'm pretty sure I'll be using in the future.

You have a right to be annoyed by this, but I simply don't feel like going back to edit the whole thing. My computer froze a few times when I was making the tutorial to accomodate full resolution of the source material, so please forgive me on this one.

I am happy you found it helpful, I look forward to seeing what this tutorial may produce in the end.

'Tis merely the truth ye see before thine eyes fair madam.

He's what TFA Rattletrap is mostly based on. He's from Botcon's dawn of Future's past set where the story took place pre beast wars.

Oh and you might want to think of making the text a little bigger, it's a tad hard to read.

ah nicely explained, have been trying to do one of these for a long time but there's just so much stuff you need to point out D8. its good that you cut back on that huge load though.otherwise one would be too overwhelmed with all the info and not be able to pay attention.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Destron23 In reply to LyricaBelachium [2011-11-11 16:29:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
Yeah, I originally had just blocks of text next to the process of my picture, but I thought to summarize better and to keep the readers attention, I'd give these little intermediate examples in between each idea. But yeah, I could have also explained a heck of a lot more. A whole tutorial could go to hands, faces, etc...

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

LyricaBelachium In reply to Destron23 [2011-11-11 20:09:30 +0000 UTC]

yeah.. I was working on an actual manual rather than a tutorial lol. cuz there's just that much. placing, balance, inbalance, working with cubes and rectangles to get the hang of it, the use of colour, curve against edge, over all look and detail look, busy areas and clean areas, character essence, the thought behind character essense, the flor in colnstruction lines and line actions, etc etc etc...
so by the time I realised I was actually doing a manual I just..."yeahhhhh.... I'm not gonna have the time for this"

Very helpful tutorial. I usually fall apart and break style when I get to the hands. It must take some kind of sorcery to get them to come out right.
