"Oh shit" It's happened to me before in my Abrams, we were on a mountain and as we crested it we suddenly realized that there was no more ground in front, and instead we were on a cliff. Thankfully I was able to put it in reverse and avoid killing my tc and loader.

That was one of the shortcommings of the german panzers. Aside from being overly complex and heavy, their cross country mobility was nothing compared to the T34s

Well not only that, but the Wehrmacht in general was poorly prepared for the Russian steppes. Their other vehicles (lorries and such) couldn't make it through the mud, they had no winter clothing, and the bulk of the army still relied on horses for transport. It must have been hell trying to move their artillery pieces, especially since the Germans had little (if any) self-propelled artillery over the course of the war.

As long as you don't treat anything like gospel, it's all good. Not even hindsight is 20/20, after all. Human memory and perception can be...funny. For a relevant example, look up Hitler's Army by Omer Bartov. He focuses pretty heavily upon German perceptions during the war (particularly the Germans' distorted perception of reality), and it's a rather interesting read. I just had to read it for a class.
