Description
Since last Sunday was Easter, I wanted to post up a meme about my favorite rabbits in the media. Rabbits are cute and cuddly creatures, burt freommm what I have learned through. the media is that rabbits can be tricky and sly just like foxes. However, they also tend to be territorial when needed for the situation. Needless to say, in some cultures rabbits are considered to be good luck and given their staple in the media, it's safe to say that they are.Without further ado, I like to do a list of my favorite rabbits in the media.
1) Bugs Bunny(Looney Tunes)-I knew that wascally wabbit was going to make the top of the list, but out onf all the rabbits, Bugs was one of my favorite rabbits since childhood. I had toys of him, plenty of videos and I was a big Looney Tunes nut(aside from being a Disney fan). While Looney Tunes had their tricksers, Bugs was THE trickster. No matter who was the enemy whether it was Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, Marvin the Martian, the Tasmanian Devil or even his on/off rival Daffy Duck, Bugs will find a way to outsmart them and go about his usual business. From his quips of Whats Up Doc? to his disguises to fool his enemies or just finding a way out of things with his quick thinking, Bugs is able to get out of a sticky situation. However, Bugs does show he does care about the people around him and does know that he has some standards when it comes to his tricks which is a good quality I find in him and I guess this is also why a lot of people in universe like him better than Daffy(because IRONICALLY Daffy was the original screwball until Bugs came along). With his fame and popularity with audiences for generations, Bugs is the mascot of Warner Bros and has been since his debut in A Wild Hare by Tex Avery.
2) E. Aster Bunnymund(Rise of the Guardians)-This movie is the one movie where I think the Easter Bunny is a badass(along with the other childhood guardians) AND voiced by Hugh Jackman. E. Aster Bunnymund also known as The Easter Bunny is a little rough around the edges like his on-off rivalry with Nicholas St. North aka Santa Claus and his uneasiness with Jack Frost due to a blizzard Jack caused back in 1968, but when it comes to his holiday and children, he does show he has a soft side. Said soft side shows when Sophie, Jamie's little sister accidentally stumbles to his home, where he forms a brief, but adorable father/daughter type of bond. However, when it comes to Pitch the Boogeyman threatening the beliefs of every child of the world, he will have his boomerangs out and ready for attack. After Pitch destroys the belief of Easter to the children, Bunnymund turns into a cute little rabbit unable to be a badass. Despite his uneasiness with Jack, he eventually comes to realize that Jack is just as important as the Man in the Mmoon says he would be for the other guardians. As such, he and the other guardians encourage the other kids to believe again, thus earning his original form back as well as him and the other guardians managing to defeat Pitch. Bunnymund is a badass, but that doesn't mean that he isn't soft.
3) Peter Cottontail(Here Comes Peter Cottontail)-Ever since I rented this from the libarary last year, I had to go to this special as my new go-to-Easter movie. Peter Cottontail, our hero of the story is actually a flawed character with his constant fibbing and his overconfidence. Nevertheless, Colonel Wellington Bunny chooses him as successor due to himn reminding him of him when he was younger. After Peter oversleeps and accidentally lets Irontail win the competition(also due to Irontail's cheating), Peter vows that he will find a way to turn back to the day of the competition and give out the most Easter Eggs. While finding out thaht some holidays he has a hard time doing so(given it feels out of place), other holidays are more than willing to take an Easter Egg. He does get lucky on St. Patrick's Day when Irontail turns the eggs green and as a result, Easter is restored and Peter takes his responsibilyt more seriously.
4) Fiver, Hazel-Rah and Bigwig(Watership Down)-During the pandemic, I was dying to try a new animated film that wasn't Disney, Universal, etc. Something unique. One trip to the library, grabbed this movie off the shelf and I was hooked. Watership Down, aka the darker and better versions of Bambi and The Land Before Time, but with rabbits is a unique take on the "journey new home" trope. Among the reasons are because of the main three rabbits.
Hazel-Rah(formerly just Hazel) is the protagonist o f the. story who is. a goodhearted, yet very practical rabbit who wants what is best for the warren. He is the first to hear of Fiver's prophecy of the field being covered in blood and defends him from a couple of bullies. At first he is unsure of his younger brother's visions coming true, but nevertheless trust him enough to take a small group of rabbits who are willing to join them in their journey to find a better home. During the. journey, Hazel-rah demonstrates his kindness and cleverness which earns him the other rabbits respect that when they get there, he is named chief. With his clever cunning when it comes to strategy and kind heart, Hazel-rah becomes the chief that the new warren called Watership Down deserves. Hazel-Rah ends up living a long life before passing away of old age and being taken to Frith by the Black Rabbit of Death.
Fiver, Hazel-rah's younger brother(and my favorite of the rabbits), is a little more timid which makes him a target among the other rabbits to bully him. However, he does have a keen sense of vision which ends up providing. the biggest part of the plot when he first sees a vision to where the field that they're in is covered in blood and that it's not safe where they live in anymore. At first the other rabbits don't believe him, but Hazel-rah manages to get the other rabbits to join him. Througout the journey, Fiver continues to sense is that there is more danger on the way to the warren and when they get to it which gets the rabbits' attentions and they end up using it to an advantage. The best examples are when Fiver warns them of a warren that was to feast them to be killed by humans during the journey and the other is the big climax for when Hazel-Rah gets the idea to stop the Efefra from invading Watership Down.
Bigwig is the strongest of the rabbits. Once an Owsla, or an officer of the former warren, Bigwig maintains a strong opposition for the journey at first, but given that there is no other choice, Bigwig complies and joins Hazel-rah and the other rabbits aware that it will cost him his job. He is at first at odds with Hazel-rah over who gets to be the chief of the new warren and at times he refuses to think before acting which almost gets him killed by a snare trap. Acknowledging Hazel as a true leader, Bigwig vows to protect the new warren as captain. This is what gets him in interest with General Woundwort who thinks of him a true potential for Efrafa when he goes to spy on the warren and slip a few does out of the tyrannical warren. While Hazel-Rah, Dandelion, Blackberry and Hyzalenthay carry out the plan to bring the dog over to stop the Efrafa soldiers from invading Watership Down, Bigwig manages to beat General Woundwart in a duel...and win albiet exhausted from the fight and the General meeting his end in the dog's teeth.
5) The White Rabbit(Alice in Wonderland)-The White Rabbit may have been late for his very important date, but he isn't too late to get a spot on my list. The White Rabbit is a nervous wreck so to speak, always worrying about what happens if he arrives late. However, his presence makes a big impact in the movie as Alice manages to get into Wonderland through following him down the rabbit hole. Throughout the movie, we find out that the reason why he is so anxious is because he is the Queen of Heart's herald and if he is late, he will be executed. Also the poor rabbit gets NO luck throughout the film which makes me feel bad for him. Like he gets his house destroyed and his watch is broken and filled with food and gone mad. I just wanted to give him a hug after everything. especially since he shouldn't have to work for a fat pompous, bad tempered, old tyrant like the Queen of Hearts. In some of the books I used to own as a kid and some of them I've read now, after Alice's first encounter in Wonderland, the rabbit buries the hatchet with Alice as in one book, they've teamed up to find a snack for the queen.
6) Rabbit(Winnie the Pooh)-Before there was Squidward in Spongebob Squarepants, Rabbit was that "killjoy neighbor who wants only peace and quiet". However, as we get older, we can understand where Rabbit is coming from. He wants to enjoy the peace and quiet of his home and also enjoy a nice cup of tea or plant in his garden without anybody to bother him. And it's understandable. We all have that moment where we just want to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet and way from the people and things that annoy you. Just enough to do your favorite hobby? In Rabbit's case it's gardening. And all he wants to do it without Pooh and Tigger to annoy him even if he considers them his friends. He also tends to be a busy bee as he wants things as organized and planned out as possible. However, Rabbit does have a soft side as he does care for his friends and wants them to feel safe and in the television series, he had adopted a baby bird named Kessie as his surrogate daughter whom he dotes on.
7) Roger Rabbit(Who Framed Roger Rabbit?)-Roger Rabbit is a kooky and funny cartoon star living in the glory days of Hollywood in a world where humans and cartoon characters interact with each other and work together. He has a good career, a steady job and a loving(as well as sexy human) wife to come home to. Where could it go downhill? Well, rumoros of his wife Jessica cheating on. him with Marvin Acme, the founder of Toontown sends Roger in a depressed state. However, while taking these rumors to heart was one thing, he would NEVER commit murder of any kind which is what he is accused of(it's even in the. title for cyringout loud). Now a fugitive, Roger ends up having to hide with toon-hating detective Eddie Valiant, but in the process Eddie finds out that not only is Jessica madly in love with Roger as much as he is, but she was blackmailed into a relationship with Acme or else Roger would never work again. During his time runing from the law with Eddie to help him solve his case, Roger's looney and kind personality eventually rubs off on Eddie, reigniting his reason for why he loved working with toons until the day his brother got killed by a toon years ago. This in turn helps Roger get back his life again, returning him back to the spotlight.
8) Oswald the Lucky Rabbit(Disney)-While Mickey Mouse may be the mascot to Disney, you should hear the story of his. long lost "brother" Oswald. Oswald was made in 1927 as their first big star, but after Walter Lantz took Oswald to Universal, Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse and the mouse became the famous icon while the rabbit fell into obscurity...until the recent years during 2013 when the Pic Mickey games came out and Oswald EXPLODED in popularity. It was like if the studio got the Oswald chraracter back into their company's loving arms. This not only allowed Oswald to meet his "brother", it allowed him to explore his character more. While I don't personally play videogames that much anymore, It hink i t was really sweet for them to. get Oswald back into popularity again after so long and personally after seeing his first short, I can see why he deserves the recognition. I just hope that the other projects give him some more appearences in the Mickey and Friends franchise.
9) The Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog(Monty Python and the Holy Grail)-Don't let it's cuteness fool you, because he will rip your throat out. No seriously. A bunny CAN go savage and carnivorous after King Arthur and his Knights come across him. Refusing to Tim the Enchanter's warnings about then rabbit, Arthur orders Sir Borrs to kill him....only for the rabbit to lunge over and kill the knight before he could. A pintsized powerhouse by nature, the Killer Rabbit kills most of Arthur's remaining men until only five stand behind. It later meets its own end when Arthur throws the Holy Hand Grenade at it, killing it once and for all. Remember, looks can sometimes kill.
10) Judy Hopps(Zootopia)-While Zootopia is not my alltime favorite Disney film, I still like Judy as a character. Judy may be the first bunny cop on the ZPD force, but if there's one thing that I love about her is that she has determination and quick thinking. She managed to use her agility and speed to make it through training classes and she has shown kindness to others as she instantly became a friend of Mr. Big's family after saving Fru-Fru from a giant donut logo. However, just because she has big dreams of being a cop and hahs been through extensive training, that doesn't mean that she can't be reckless and she didn't know what she was in form when Bogo put her in parking duty right away due to sexism and a bit of bigotry on his part. However, Judy gets her chance to find Emmet Otterton and prove to the bullheaded buffalo that she can solve a case. However, Judy botches up and accidentally causes a civil war among predators and prey which leads to her best friend Nick breaking up with her and her quitting the police force. It turns out being on the carrot farm ended up being a good thing as it ended up leading her to figure out that the Night Howler flowers are what are causing the predators to go savage, not some biological instinct which leads her to rekindle with Nick and solve the case and bring Zootopia back to normal...but not too normal as there WILL be conflicts like specisim that Judy has learned through her time.
