Well, that, uh... got a little personal there for me. Not the circumstances exactly, more the feelings behind it.

But that's a fairly common experience for a lot of people, I'd think. You do your best, you try to impress someone, you just want them to be proud of you, but no matter what you do it doesn't happen. Maybe nothing is ever good enough, maybe you just can't get to the level they're expecting, maybe they just never notice or there isn't actually a way to get them to think about you the way you want, to see how strong you can be.

And, sometimes, that can inspire people to go too far to get the approval they crave.
