Different motives aside he still was just as bad as the trio and was still against reforming. Not everyone becomes a villain through the same reasons. I'm sure that Chrysalis felt pretty lonely herself.

Of all the things, I would blame the writers for what happened to the trio. They didn't need to keep them all as villains in the end, but apparently they are under a strange belief that story twists are inherently good. Makes you wonder how much effort did they actually put in the writing.

batmanwins In reply to Redahfuhrerking [2020-04-01 19:57:04 +0000 UTC]
The writing is just nonsensical. People complained about them reforming too many villains, so they didn't reform these three.
Problem is that that's carless management of your characters.
Creating an irredeemable villain that can't be saved is fine. Yes, there are some people that will never change and it's important to teach that. The problem is that they humanized the trio and gave them episodes like frenemies to prove they totally can change if given the chance.
Then they're stoned and forgotten about after those things simply to fulfill a quota.Β
If you want to have an irredeemable villain you have to actually make them irredeemable, not just refuse to even try to save them. Otherwise, you're just being a massive hypocrite.

Twilight just want everypony to be happy, it seems. I wonder if the thought of those three lost souls would weight as heavily on her shoulder, if they were really dead instead of "practically dead"? It can be easier to move on, if there is nothing you can do to change the sad situation.

So... they can try to conquer Equestria all the times they want without any punishment?Β
I agree that Starlight is a living example, but she never answered for anything when Twilight made her her student. She almost destroyed Equestria and killed countless lives and she walked happy being the student of the Princess of Friendship. At least Discord stayed stone for a time and Luna tried to haveΒ penance with the Tantabus, but not giving someone any punishment after something that treatened so many lives its not right.

Don't be childlish. I admit the rule doesn't apply to everyone and I'll never agree on torturing a child. Starlight got away with nothing, but I don't agree in give them a simple test and let them free just because.
I also agree that Discord didn't got any penance for the thing that he pulled of with the trio. But what I ask its that they get their chance to EARN their absolution. It cannot be that they just get unstonned and then just give them all the comodities so they can be absolved. They need to have some kind of ordeal.Β
Sunset had it rough after her pardon, it wasn't simply a new chance and everyone was okay with it, she had to work so everyoneΒ could see her with new eyes and she could live with others as everyone else.

Realistically a jail cell is perfectly adequate for Cozy Glow even if she doesn't change her ways. Tartarus and Being stoned are just cruel and unusual punishments for a powerless and mortal filly.
They should be given a reformation program for everyone's sake. That way they're not just going to come back in 1000 years worse than ever because Celestia's solution to everything is throwing away a problem until it comes back to bite you again.

They had their chances. Starlight gave Chrysalis a chance and she spit it in her face, Cozy Glow was taught the Magic of Friendship first hand and she only saw it as a way to get power, and Tirek was stopped three times and he never changed his ways, even with a brother who learned about friendship and two stays in Tartarus.
If someone fails more than twice even when you show him the right way and they keep trying to be selfish and make things their way, or they are really stupid or just don't want to do things right.

Well... we can compromise then. I accept that they should be helped if they want to be helped. But... I would also agree on it as long as they have penance wile doing it. Following the example of Sunset Shimmer, she wasn't left withouth help, but she also had to work and had a rough time before she could be accepted be everyone again.

Fine. Starlight did it, but I still believe that she got away too easy. She was about to destroy Equestria and thousands of lives, and she gets away with it being the student of the Princess of Friendship?
Even if they can be reformed, they cannot walk without a punishment, that was something that never liked of Starlight. She never answered for anything.

I also got annoyed a little when that happened. At least some fan comics tried to had some backlash on Discord for those actiones. But really, there should have been some kind of penance for that. His intentions at the end were good, but its true that he should have been punished.

I don't say that they should be forever be stone. But as you say... 6 months. Six months is not much time for them to regret their actions.
Put them in positions where they won't be confortable and satisfied but the only way to get out is to change their ways. The only punishment that occurs to me is a spell with the same effects as Izanami of the Naruto universe. An ilussion that keeps you imprissoned unless you accept a reality and change your way of thinking. That, or comunity service under vigilance in some place where they won't be happy until they make an effort to change.
Starlight in that way learned the Magic of Friendship in the most confortable way possible. Even Tempest and Sunset had difficult times before they could be considered reformed by everyone, but at least that was a punishment on its own.

Secury In reply to alexandermon [2020-03-23 23:26:29 +0000 UTC]
The way I see it is more or less like this:
I don't say that trio didn't anything bad, they did a lot of bad stuf (like blowing up half of Canterlot), but on the other hand, since it was Discord who freed them in the first place I'm willing to give them some slack. Also, I didn't quite like how he treated them. I mean how he slammed them to the wall with his magic, that was a little bit out of the line.
So as a punishment I would choose some reasonable compromise between full pardon and eternal prison.
For example, yeah, the community service I can get behind. The only thing I would want from ponies is willingness to accept trio back if they want to change. Like Chrysalis would be allowed to go back to her hive if she is on good behavior.
As for the imprisonment in the stone, I think they deserve at least some parole hearing here and there to see if they are ready to behave themself.
