Freckles are fine, it's your interpretation of the character. One thing though: earrings are a no-no. Sam's pretending to be a guy (it's a bit safer for folks to assume you're male in the post-apocalyptic future, if you know what I mean.) and most survivalists wouldn't wear them anyway since they get snagged on stuff.
Also, the hat looks like it's just perched on top of her head. You can either bring it down onto her head or remove it entirely, your choice.
Otherwise, I'm likin' it. Did you read any of the story, or have any interest in doing so? It's ok if you didn't/don't.
