Doing this showed me how little I truly know. I went back and tried to draw with guides and I couldn't. I was going to use it as an example on how to draw the human anatomy from an idealized standpoint and a true human proportion standpoint. And after doing this image...I saw how great the human form looked...so I tried to use guides again and realized that I couldn't conceive the right guides without a model. Yet when I went to draw a picture without using a model or guides...I realized that I could draw an okay human figure without use of guides...I'm not sure what the guide lines do to me, but they mess me up. I at least can see what potential I have in the immediate future though...if I can do more studies like this I can perfect my style. I do see one thing though...art flows through the stylus from the artist's mind. Thinking too hard and things like guide lines only keep the artist from his fullest potential. I will do some more drawing from models and stay away from ever using guide lines again. Guide lines make a great tool...but eventually like training wheels we have to get rid of them.
