Real life electron-beams aren’t just directed lightning from a bottle - if you saw one fire it would look like a straight lightning bolt surrounded by a blue glow (in an atmosphere like Earth’s, in vacuum this shit’s invisible). That blue glow is Cherenkov Radiation, like from an active nuclear reactor. It is particle radiation, and if you’re close enough see this thing fire you might live long enough to write your last will and testament. So don’t use these inside cities with civilians nearby or be prepared for War Crime charges, okay?
The primary advantage of charged-particle cannons. They punch through anything smaller than a mountain range, so it's useful for ground defense against orbital ships too.
2x Heavy Visible Light Laser Cannons - just scale up and improve what we have now, then shrink it and increase efficiency. Keep rinsing and repeating until you wind up this system, a pair of very large, very powerful, very efficient lasers burried in your mech’s torso or arms, with mirrors and turrets directing their output in visible light/UV/IR at anything you want to drill REALLY BIG HOLES THROUGH LIKE THE ENEMY.
1x 10-tube Missile Launcher System - I want 2 missile types, Long Range (250nautical miles to 500 nautical miles by the time this thing gets built) and Short Range (increased accuracy, increased yield, different warheads, but same size and mass; range 0meters to 1km). I want my missile system to launch in swarms of 1,5, or 10 selectively, and I want to dedicate at least 3 to 5 tons to missile ammunition
2x Vehicular Flamethrowers - I hate using shit this painfull, but clearing forrests, jungles, and pillboxes necessitate these disgusting weapons. Also useful for flushing enemy troops out of soft target buildings without wasting HEAT-DEP rounds and shit.
2x Heavy Machine Guns - Another, far more precise, far less fucked up way to kill infantry. Twin linked 20mmm Vulcan M61 cannons with 0.5 tons of ammunition each should do just fine against anything an individual human is likely to be able to wear as armor. Sorry guys, but don’t fight me on foot. Worse awaits…..
4 tons of I-Pods on legs (essentially just a series and ‘Mech sized claymores covering the lower legs) These things are on a totally seperate circuit than any other system on this ‘Mech and must be armed from the cockpit by the pilot. Once this is accomplished, it’s a fire and forget system that splatters anyone stupid enough to try and engaged your ‘Mech on foot. This is where powered battle armor might’ve killed these ‘Mechs, now even those guys will die because my anti-infantry claymore charges weigh 0.5tons each. Good luck getting to me without just mindlessly sacrificing troops to clear my defenses.
Cargo: really just empty space for future upgrades and/or necessary equipment added and subtracted for each campaign/variant of this ‘Mech. Versatility will be a key factor in the development of this integrated weapons systems we call a BattleMech. This basic chassis is designed with a “Future Foreward” approach where I expect this thing to start off with the acclaim of the AMRAAM, to later aquire the lifespan and flexibility/distribution of the AK-47 assault rifle.
The cargo areas will start of simply modular areas with command/control hookups and power outlets, coupled with armored, sliding panels that can discharge the ground troops this things gon na surprise the enemy with once these ‘Mechs bully they way past the frontlines.
