I'd recommend testing the A.I. co-pilot plus hands-OFF-throttle and stick to test the upgraded nearly hands-free system in a flight simulator. I read that the US is linking multiple simulators together during simulated missions so the entire squad can practice together.

Build 4 of these simulators and train your A.I. co-pilot by having the Humans in the cockpit do everything except manipulate the throttle. Leave your hands off that and let the A.I. control it because you can simply grunt "10!" in high-gee combat and the computer will know you mean "drop throttle to 10% max output and hold there unitl I tell you otherwise."
