About me, I do not know.
I like reading, and thinking, and creating ideas
Ideas that spin out and out
Until they lose momentum and fall with a whisper.
Am I smart? I was,
but in this school of lookalikes,
I feel lesser, insignificant,
White girl pretending to be Asian
With too loud a voice proclaiming
too loud ideas.
I try not to press down,
inflict my plans upon others --
Oh it's hard, but I try.
Will this page, like all else,
be seen as trying too hard?
Too hard at everything, my mom
in my ear, telling me to slow down,
get more Bs, more sleep.
But mother, I cannot --
putting my whole self into everything
every idea, plan, paper.
Too much of me --
Is that why I am turned away,
find my friends among the odd ones,
the exiles? Not afraid
to be ourselves, proclaiming too-loud
our interests, our thoughts, our loves.
IF this is me, then maybe I want to be you --
Less loud, less strange, less true.
