Do you know the reason of sharp shadow on the bird? Is there bump map was used?

You know, that's bothered me about this image too. It's really due to my inexperience with Octane, but they've introduced a new lighting model that might soften that edge. There was a bump map, but amping that up a bit might help too

The more bump map strength, the sharper are shadows. I would recommend you to set bump power to zero and use some sort of 'velvet' material for bird's feathers, something like that: fav.me/d5iplj5
Another assumption: you are using 'directlighting' render kernel, not 'pmc'. So, all shadows became sharp due to lack of indirect lighting.

Awesome, I really appreciate all the Octane help I can get, and you clearly know your way around it . You're right, I did use directlighting. I re-rendered a new version using pmc and set bump down to zero and it already looks much better. I'll post that revised version when it's done rendering. Thanks!

Well, 'directlighting' kernel is only for fast preview of scene at first test renders - to check composition of scene and position of camera. Final renders should be done with 'pathtracing' or 'pmc' kernels - if you want to get photo realistic image. The directlighting can be roughly compared to Poser's Firefly render engine (with IDL off) or old versions of Daz's 3Delight.
