In those fleeting moments when their gazes met, he saw right past her defenses and she past his. Their eyes would widen ever so slightly with silent understanding before quickly glancing away. In that fraction of a second though, something passed between them, something they later came to understand as acceptance. They never talked about it. Rather, they didn't need to.

They found solace in those hasty parting embraces, which seemed ever so brief, but if you watched closely enough, you would see them hug tightly, close their eyes and sigh inaudibly before letting go. It only lasted a few seconds but for them it was an eternity. They had found each other but now it was time to go. It was time to let go.
