What made Cassandra form her network, and how does she select it members?

This is a great question. Cassandra was originally a member of Bastion Blue. When that team was disbanded after battling an entity claiming to be Ares, the God of War, it left a void in Verdant City. Cassandra put the Network together to fill that void. Amber Enigma was the first to join her the only member of Bastion Blue who remained active, besides Cassie herself.

Cassie selects members based on criteria really known only to herself, but any look at the roster suggests she tends to favour those who are in someway outcasts. Valyn, the alien princess in Exile, Alchemica , a vigilante with a history of ignoring the law in pursuit of vengeance, En-Trance a runaway wild child who Cassie found working as a stripper...the list goes on. While this isn't true in all cases, there are enough members of the Network with similar backgrounds to say with confidence Cassie favours outsiders.

What prompted you to get into 3D art and knowing what you know know would you still do it?

I don't do the art...if it isn't a commission or a gift chances are Dee or Sugar does it...I am just the writer

Your characters Alchemica and Entrance are heroines with very different personalities and crime fighting methods but seem to work well together, was it intentional to make them polar opposites and was it your intention to have them team up from time to time for adventures?

Ohh...I don't think it was my intention to make them polar opposites, but I did learn from my time as a GM that to enable players to know when you were switching between NPC's it was important to have at least one thing that made each NPC distinctive. In writing you just take that further, add layers...line an onion...or an ogre . It was , however, always planned they would work together yes.

If a Mallard Duck in Texas took off flying North and a Canadian Goose took off flying South, where would they meet and how many feathers would fall to earth when they collide in mid-air?

How did you and Dee first meet?

Back when I got started I created a list of characters. One of the names was Bratt Pak whom I listed as unrepentant sociopaths with no redeeming qualities. About a week later there was a knock on my door.

What can tell us of the upcoming stories for the reboot?

Personal favourite heroine - what do you like most about her and what do you like least, and why?
Personal favourite villain / antagonist - what do you like most about him / her and what do you like least, and why?

This is a tough one...the answer can vary depending on who I am writing at the time...but I will do my best to answer it in 3 parts

My favourite character is easy...it is Dimples Bratt...she is a bundle of innocence, joy, chaos and danger...and I never know exactly what she will do or say...I have to listen to her voice very carefully...

Favourite Heroine - I will chicken out (or "Duck") this one and say it is a tie between En-trance and Alchemica.

What do I like the most about them? With Alchemica it is her deep sense of right and wrong... with En-Trance it is her disdain of rules that get in her way when she is doing her job. While Superheroines are meant to uphold the Law, both of them realise that the law and Justice can, on occasion, be different things

What do I like least about them - This is easier to answer for En-Trance, it is her self centered nature, her pursuit of fame that sometimes colours her decision making process. It can also lead to friction between En-Trance and her team mates. For Alchemica...you got me...Jessica is just a sweet girl next door with magical powers. Maybe her lack of self confidence in her early years...she seems to have a lot of doubts about herself and her place in the world

Favourite Villain/Antagonist - I don't think I have done a great job developing the Rogue's gallery tbh. Maybe Relentless the Blood Wraith is my favourite of those who have appeared on screen...
I like him because he is Doomsday...a nearly unstoppable force of nature...uncompromising and brutal and unnuanced evil. I dislike him because, like Doomsday, he is the kind of threat that loses credibility with each appearance. You can't bill yourself as unstoppable if you keep on getting your ass kicked

And last...for now...but defimitely not least...the totally awesomez Thenar!!!!

I understand you're working on a "reboot" wherein you intend to rebuild the entire Verdant City mythos. I feel this is somewhat akin to James Gunn taking over for Zach Snyder. What will make this reboot different from your previous version?

Oh..boy...I had to think about this one. (I also added an edit becasue I dont think I was clear first time around)

Essentially I view story through certain lenses...for the Edit: Superheroine Genre of Fiction there are, imo, primarily two lenses.

Lens 1 is the school of thought that says "Lets just ignore too much real world influence or concerns about the characters being in danger or repeating mistakes...this is a kink, we are here for fun, lets just have fun. Don'y worry too much about why the character did this and ended up here, just enjoy the experience for what it is" - Edit: This is more common approach in the SHiP genre

Lens 2 is the school that says "I am going to build a world and create characters and , for the most part, that world and character building will inform the character's actions. If I say the character is a genius, they will act like it. Adherence to consistency is the main goal, fun is secondary" - Edit : A more mainstream Superheroine approach

There is a mythical 3rd school - one that manages to blend both of the above schools to an almost perfect degree. The characters act as they would given what has been established about them and still there is plenty of fun perilous action going on.

Right now the mix , for me, has too much of school 1 and not enough of school 2. I want to change that mix, to have the characters act as if...remembering the last time they walked casually into a room they got ko'd from behind, the next time they check behind the damn door, but without losing too much of the "Peril" aspect. Ideally I want to improve my writing so I can pull off that near impossible blend. We will see if I can do it...even after 10 years my feeling is I can't...which if I am being honest is one of the reasons the Reboot has been delayed again and again...I don't have the confidence in myself to get even close to the tone I am aiming for

Edit :I don't really want to name examples but there are at least 3 creators here who work in the Superheroine in Peril Genre but have mastered the "3rd Way" telling fantastic peril stories but with more rounded, consistent characters across their work

While I know your Fondness for En Trance, I believe Alchemica MAY be the stronger heroine of the two. Would her Fey background possibly be the source of both mystic allies and foes? And could those eldritch battles lead into the streets of Verdant City?

This is a bit like who is stronger...Batman or Superman. On paper Jessica has a lot more utility...her powers give her far wider ranging abilities than En-Trance. But, folks overlook (because the writer hasn't used it often..if at all!!!) Trance can shape shift. And her voice can compel anyone who understands her , with very very few exceptions, to do whatever she wants. Jessica isn't immune. So imagine the possibilities of Mystique and The Preacher combined into one Heroine...

Also not really noticeable from the stories so far are those very mystical elements you mention. The Alchemica is the champion of House Shadow and her role is to protect mankind from the linerging dangers of the Old World...the World before Humankind. So yes, all those things will be touched on

Moreover, might this witch be on the radar of one Nadine Colsun? After all, there's a powerful, untapped source of unexplained power that she NEEDS to understand (and control--sorry Sugar)

Yes, she is on Nadine's radar. Nadine doesn't understand how magic can exist in a rational world - it violates the laws of science after all, and she hates it. But to control Alchemcia she might have to rely on Sugar who has a magic tough of her own.

Hi Dan, thanks for the question..and it is a good one. I am just gna answer this stream of consciousness so apologies if I ramble a bit.

I will start with a story from many years ago...I was having a friendly back and forth with someone in the comments on one of my images, and they said their character could overcome mine by googling their weaknesses.

That took me off guard, and I was like "What?"

If you read my answer to White Owl above, I would categorise that as a Lens 1 thought.

In my head...the characters take every precaution they can to keep their identities, exact powers and any weaknesses secret, but in the modern world they can't keep everything under wraps.

To your question specifically - weaknesses - then generally they are not known to the wider criminal under world, though some become more widely known as the story progresses.

As the Cassandra Network operate under the Reagan Act, some of that information is known by the US Government - but again not all the specifics.

Anything on the Government databases and the Network's A.I. is known by Bratt Pak, and Books Bratt has compiled the largest data base of Heroines and their vulnerabilities because, though part of her hopes to avoid direct conflict with Cassie and her team Books pragmatic three quarters knows it is inevitable, and Bratt Pak like to be prepared. Books doesn't share however. She won't sell that data, for example, in her civilian identity she is already a Billionaire, and she can invent and patent more than enough new useful tech to make all the money she might ever want.

Again, this kind of question...or more so the answer...has suffered because I have been telling stories out of sequence...

Let me give an example - En-Trance

Everyone watching and reading knows her powers are voice based. However her eyes glow as a side effect of that power and in her initial appearances, with Cassie's recommendation, she used her powers to make people remember her powers affecting them through her gaze. At this point, on occasion when captured she was blindfolded but not gagged and hence able to escape.

It took a couple of encounters with a Russian outfit who had members from Eastern Europe that didn't speak English before people realised that her power was in her voice and gagging her rendered her effectively powerless.

The Russian's did spread that information widely as they hate her and want to see her taken down and delivered to them.

I think this answer is rambling enough already, so to sum up - Weaknesses are not generally known and Cassie takes whatever measures she can to insure that stays the case...but as the Heroines operate in the public gaze, and cell phones are everywhere, it won't prove possible to keep all of the Network's vulnerabilities secret forever.

It took a couple of encounters with a Russian outfit who had members from Eastern Europe that didn't speak English before people realised that her power was in her voice and gagging her rendered her effectively powerless.

The Russian's did spread that information widely as they hate her and want to see her taken down and delivered to them.

I think this answer is rambling enough already, so to sum up - Weaknesses are not generally known and Cassie takes whatever measures she can to insure that stays the case...but as the Heroines operate in the public gaze, and cell phones are everywhere, it won't prove possible to keep all of the Network's vulnerabilities secret forever.
