I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks so! Everyone depicts him as being cold as ice, but I bet beneath all that extra baggage and tragedy he's dealt with is a really comical guy who likes to laugh-at least I think he does

Thats it! He is just burdened with sorrow and problems how to protect his people, but it its not that it's his initial state of his consciousness and character. Just look at how he smiled and danced in the Rivendell - adorablest thing I seen in the Hobbit movie.
