Optimus is the leading Prime of Iacon, one of the thirteen regions of Cybertron. Chosen by The Oracle, Optimus was once Orion Pax, before he became successor to Sentinel Prime after his untimely death at the hands of unidentified assailant. Optimus tries to be a fair and just Prime, and often visits his friend and fellow Prime, Megatron, for advice.

Before he became Optimus Prime, Orion was a library clerk who watched the world go by his window. And with each passing day, he began to notice the injustices facing Cybertronians today, and decided he wanted to make a change. So with a little help from his employer, Alpha Trion, Orion began passing on a newsletter. This newsletter inspired activism amongst Cybertronians, wanting change to the system, and change did come.

Following these events, Sentinel kept a close eye on Orion, even going as far as to employ the young clerk into his government offices, a move that unsettle members of his government. Sentinel kept a close eye on Orion till his demise, and would be smiling down from the Allspark to see how far the young librarian has come.
