Its the same for me. Sadly after 4 months I gave into thoes cravings. Trust me, after being clean, its not worth it. We just have to be more open to other options, more positive ones.

It's an addiction and those cravings come with every addiction. It never goes away completely, only fades the more you work through your problems and even then it's never gone.

Me too ST...But I've found reasons to stop. It can be hard at times, but I'm never going back. There are too many things I don't want to miss in life.
Keep fighting. Never give up and you'll get through this. It won't be easy but I know you can do it.

because it's difficult to explain. you;d have to do it to actually get why we do what we do.

Doesn't sound like a particularly pleasurable habit

because it was a release, a way of letting out anger and pain.

It's not that there is no other way. It's that once that particular method becomes a habit, it becomes easier to fall into patterns of self-destruction. Just in the same way that people smoke when they become stressed. They may know that it is a very bad habit, and wish to break it, but it is addicting. You begin to associate the cutting with the relief of pain. And so when you experience a highly stressful situation, your mind automatically comes to the conclusion that this mental pain can be relieved through the action of cutting.
That's why so many people do it.

Yeah but smoking makes you calm. Cutting yourself hurts like a bitch.

Smoking does make you calm, even though it is a stimulant. Just as cutting yourself makes you calm, even though it triggers an adrenaline rush. The difference is that although they are both forms of self-destructive habits, cutting creates a short term ailment whereas smoking creates a long term form.
I do not endorse either method, as they are both extremely negative habits to form. I am merely clarifying.

I do too. I stopped a long time ago. But I still always want to cut. It doesn't go away. It just gets easier to resist

And so do I...
but we'll get through it.
Just 'cause we crave it doesn't mean we need it.
We can do just as well without, thank you very much!

a friend of mine thought me something that helps. putting a rubber band (that not stays to wide) and pull it of and then just let it go, again your wrist. it hurts. and it doesn't let any scars. if you feel the need to cut, do that, get a rubber band and always stay with him on the pocket so you can use it on the more difficult times.

You can have steel on/across your skin without cutting if it would help. My initial response was thinking of making a chainmail bracelet or something - something that could help, but if you do it right can just look pretty to the people you don't want to tell what you're going through.

Put a spoon on your wrist.
You'll still feel steel on your wrist.
Instead of cutting, if you want the pain, use the elastic band trick. Or maybe just hit yourself with the spoon.
Just keep telling yourself you're better than cutting, because you are.
Need to talk? Feel free to note

I know exactly how that feels. The cravings may take a long time to go away, but the important thing is that you don't give into them.
