Description
This is a picture i did for my World History class. It was a group assignment and my job was to make a museum artifact about the topic we were given. Our topic was the bubonic plague (or black plague or black death whatever you wanna call it). I should've spent more time on it. This is my first deviation in a long time because i've been so busy with school, which is why i love these kind of assignments. There's symbolism to pretty much everything in the pic but it's late so I'll explain later. It's big and I'm not sure how to piece it together from scanning it so i had to take a photo with a not too great camera that my mom found at her job and we tried to return but it turns out the ppl are from Japan.Critique, and tear it apart for its flaws ^_^.
Water color pencils, tempera paint, copic markers and copic fine line pen thing, and sharpie. Some amount of hours.
i forgot to explain that the line going through the picture is from two pieces of paper being put together. In the original sketch, i drew the skeleton and horse way too high. Since i didn't want to draw it again i cut the bottom of the paper off and taped it at the top, then mounted it onto a piece of cardboard. So yea, there.

Good job. I like how you did the bodies, and the skeleton has also been drawn really good. Also, I love the idea.

Haha, maybe...
Even though Ms. Young has a million student art projects on her walls, we've only really done one so far. And all I did was a picture of Gilgamesh, drawn and colored 1 to 2 hours before class. It still owned everyone.

lol or maybe I'm just better at drawing than kids who have Ms. Young for World History (the proportions are messed up in mine, so...)
thanks though? Yours owns all.

wow, this is really awesome chis. truly awesome -- as in i am in awe.
lemme take a whack at the symbolism. (completely guessing) the right tower's windows are boarded up so that suggests to me a knowledge of the plauge and pervention. the statue on the right is human which may indicate the humanity still left in the church -- by the boarded up windows...the statue on the right seems skeletal which may indicate the effects of the plague.
i'm not quite sure about the mask, the hat, the horns on the horse, or the signifigance of the dragon face on the horse's armor.
don't shoot me if i murdered the symbolism...i'm not really too good at that kinda stuff. it's nice to have you posting again.

lol not...quite
for the skeletal statue, you're pretty much right, the regular statue is supposed to be just that, a normal statue.
The skeleton on horseback was the symbol of death for that time. The dragon on the armor indicates how the plague is believed now to have spread from the east. It is on the horses armor because the plague moved swiftly. The horns...are just horns. I thought they looked cool. The mask, hat, and cloak were the traditional clothing doctors wore to try and fend off the plague. Their are poppies falling from the mask because the doctors thought that poppies would purify the air as they breathed. The skeleton is removing the clothing to show how their was no protection against the invading plague. The church and corpses are both part of one piece of symbolism. When the Scots heard about the plague attacking England, they thought it was the divine wrath of God. The church is taking the place of God in this picture. The ppl tried to stay faithful and came to the church, but their was no stopping the illness and they die. I made the sky moonless to give it more of a "there is no light" look.

Heya, very cool picture. Only thing that bothers me is that it looks like you changed perspectives from the right tower on the cathedral to the left tower with the clock.
Awesome detail on the skeletal horse and rider.

yea, i did, if you look closely ALOT of perspective is off
see, i originally had the perspective kinda right, but it started to look really odd and misshapen, so i started to give the towers their own personal perspective
i would've spent more time on it if i had more time to do it because i also don't like the painting of the street or the sky and the shadows look weird and alone
but thanx for pointing it out, appreciate it

I think it looks good. perhaps it's his own strange architecture, meant to throw off the mind. I noticed the statues are different, so maybe it's somewhat of a line of smmetry, and the building follows that.
