Interestingly, Carol Danver's Ms. Marvel was originally designed to be a feminist character because of the rising first-wave feminist movement. She was portrayed to be strong, independent, but still feminine and beautiful, essentially what every working-class woman wanted to strive to become during the time period.
However, she was interesting and likable because the original writers still wrote her to be a character first and build her relationship with Captain Mar-Vel (the original Kree warrior, not the current female one).
Ironically, had the MCU gone with this version of Carol Danvers and not go through with the media and Brie Larson shitstorm of attacks against fans and men, then they'd have a more popular and likable character that fits a feminist agenda. Instead, we ended up getting a Captain Marvel that breaks pre-established MCU canon and the most controversial character and actress of modern Marvel media.
