Description
pier images have been done a million times before - i don't care - this is mine and i love itCancun, Mexico - the Carribean Sea - no color adjustment - check out those incredible shades of blue - it blew my mind how it went from light green to deep blue so intensely - my husband swears its because of this dense sea grass that collects in the darker parts as he snorkled - anyway - peaceful gorgeous stuff that reminds us all the world is sooooo much bigger than any problems we might have

Oh wow...wasn't expecting this when I clicked on the title/link (though it is of course very fitting) - wasn't expecting my reaction to it. You know, it's funny, because I grew up very near that kind of sight (it's not quite that nice in ft. lauderdale, but you know) and have loved the water all my life.
The water at night has always been a fearful thing though, but terrifying in that delicious way a scary story causes fear. It's not fear of sharks ( can't tolerate the maligning of those poor creatures) or anything, it's more abstract then that. Maybe fear of the cold, the darkness, the loneliness of drowning, cast off into the sea. And yet when I get the chance to look out at the ocean at night on a boat or at the beach, I can't resist it.
Not generally a morbid person, but the ocean is my weakness. The fear and the love have both grown stronger as I've gotten older- in fact my heart rate picked up just thinking about it. The only reason any of that sprang into my head (and resulted in this verbal torrent) is because, though brightly lit and gleaming with day, this photograph to me is filled with night.
It's beautiful.

actually -the water scares me a bit too - i'm not keen on cruises or scuba diving as a result. but if i can see land i'm usually ok

this is beautiful! there's just one thing that bothers me... the horizon is leaning in the photo.
π: 0 β©: 1
devilicious In reply to kainen [2004-07-14 12:54:22 +0000 UTC]
that's because some of that blue on the top of the horizon line is faint city/hotels/etc. on theother side of the water its not a straight ocean line you're looking at

The horizon on the right... where there's only water and sky is till not straight... so that means the picture is not straight...

i was more concerned with the pier being composed at the bottom the way i wanted it - and once that was done - the rest i didn't care about
thank you

I love this. I like how the pier leads your eye through the picture. I get the feeling that i could run right down the pier and jump into the water.

the beaches are nice there and it is quite lush the country side and urban areas are much nicer than the cities - which are crowded hot and dirty

lol We have the same problem here in Vancouver, our coastline is beautiful if it wasn't for the urban development and distrubance

there is some old song that has the line "call some place paradise - kiss it goodbye" all about how man takes the beauty and builds up around it and ruins in the meantime. sad.
i hear Vancouver is quite lovely

This reminds me of an area of Yellowstone. It's all boardwalk with pools of water colored from the minerals and such. This is a lovely shot and a great composition. nice.

Wonderful composition - the curve of the pier really draws you into the photograph, and it looks so odd sticking out on it's own. There's a bit of a slant on the horizon, mind, which is sorta weird.
The bright colours in the sea are probably from algae. In warm enough weather you get giant blooms of it in the sea, sometimes big enough to be seen from space... it makes for a wonderfully eerie effect here, though, as well as stopping it being, well, really boring, lol. The colours are so vivid, they really leap out and grab you.

wow, i feel so at home in this photo. it's a beautiful shot. it makes me feel as if i'm driving down to Key West again. the water appears to be glowing in the pic, it's an array of violent blues. the waters around the Keys are like that too
