(FULL VIEW ALWAYS TO SEE THEM)

this is the first image in another food series inspired by Play With Your Food.
i cook and am really entranced by photographing food b/c of all the colors, textures, shapes you get to play with - and it seems to invoke lots of human natural reaction whether its inciting taste from your visual or just making you view your next grocery store trip a bit more creatively

these beauties are gords - and you'll see in this series the many fantastic shapes i saw when choosing them from my farmer's market! i could have put eyes on these guys but in this particular image - i really liked how they looked "clean" like this - invoking the emotion from their shape. their nest is sesame linguini and spinach fettucine pasta.

technically this image helps me understand why learning my technical manually is imperative. i would like to have had more control over where it blurs and loses focus to avoid any PS work to sharpen - i did have to sharpen the top of the male Swan. just a bit but it it did help me see how i am learning and inspiring me to keep on doing so. my next shoots i'll be using manual functions to learn this control. overall i am pleased with these images.

past images in my gallery where i also played with food in this vein:

the Cloves go on vacation [link]
Jazz Night at the Cube [link]
Outside the Ladies Room at the Cube [link]

and lots of other abstract food images or playing with chocolate, ice cream, pasta, etc.

thanks check out Play With Your Food sometime - its a french group called Graphique -they do a lot of it and inspire me a lot - and its addicting once you start playing creatively with food too

You have inspired me with your innovative gords! Beautiful colors and composition; have you ever thought of illustraiting a cook book like this?

devilicious In reply to Sasky [2005-08-24 03:34:10 +0000 UTC]

what a great idea! i love to cook and that'd be a great way to do it! Graphique is a french site that has a Play With Your Food section taht does calendars with all sorts of creative things like this. i'd never seen any work with these types of gords - but they inspire me and I've done about half a dozen different food images now. gords, sugarcubes, garlic cloves and then I did a scene once

this work did a really good job of catching my eye. as soon as i saw the thumbnail i thought "hey those look like geese, yet remind me of squashes" so i had to check it out. lo and behold -- i was righ (to an extent ). the colors, textures and lighting all come together in a nice package. it has a very rustic and cozy feeling to it. for some reason i just cant help but think 'Thanksgiving', lol.

i think you did a great job capturing the courtship display of swans in such a unique from.

food is a great medium and i havent had the chance to see many works art in this form. well, not immortalized anyway (as all food art i've seen inevitably gets eaten).

cheers!

thank you for that lovely thought out comment and yes - it was Thanksgiving time! that's when those gords are about in the farmers market. there is a calendar called Play With Your Food that does this sort of thing - lots of inspiration there. i bet you have a different experience the next time you go to the grocer
