Description Past the square, past the bridge
Past the mills, past the stacks
On a gathering storm comes
A tall handsome man
In a dusty black coat with

A red right hand

Considering how I enjoyed all 5 Hellboy movies (even if the last one has some tone issues... and never needed the R-rating, cus the comics sure as fuck never did...), I shall binge-read the comic... with Ron Perlman's voice in mind of course...

I watched all of the movies and I liked all of them. Even the new one, as soon as I heard the public opinion that it was awful I immediately knew it couldn't be that bad. And it was enjoyable to see an actual R-rated movie, though it suffered from huge tone issues most likely stemming from its tortured development and I would have preferred the third del Toro movie instead. My favorites still are Golden Army and Blood and Iron.

Scottish boar changelings and Baba Yaga improve on a lot of things ! ALso, it's good to se Milla Jovovich ham it up instead of churning another bland Resident Evil fanfic...
I tend to think the R-rating is what made them try too hard on occasions. I mean, Hellboy is not really the cursing type and the violence from the comics is more akin to how Del Toro or the cartoons went about it ...

Baba Yaga should have had some more screen time, the little that she had was genuinely creepy.Β
Milla Jovovich honestly deserves better roles, she isn't that bad when she puts her mind to it, plus I really liked the first 3 Resident Evil movies, the other ones...not so much.
The cursing came off as try hard but I did appreciate the gory kills as they were above the generic R-rated, shoot-shoot stab-stab cuss-cuss decapitation.Β

Well, it is still faaaar better than the shitty bore that was Urban's Dredd movie. That movie was the definition of boredom ! At least Stallone understood that the whole thing is SATIRE...

Stallone Dredd is on a whole different level from Urban Dredd. While I liked some of the action scenes from 2012 it was such a bland movie that if the characters would be dressed any differently it would be one of the most generic dystopian action movies ever made. It didn't help that they tried their damndest to make it all edgy and brooding, failing at getting the point that the world of Judge Dredd is an extreme comedic satire of a police state where crazy people are kept in line by brutal law enforcement. The Stallone one embraced its original wackiness and ended up with a much more entertaining, memorable and bizarre movie, that somehow is weirdly hated for some reason. If you want to see a movie that is basically Dredd 2012 but better I highly recommend The Raid 2011, apart from a short opening it's basically nothing but brutal action from start to finish.Β

Yeah, the comparison with the Raid comes up a lot. So much for "faithful to the comics" eh ?Β  static.independent.co.uk/s3fs-…

"Unfaithful to the source material" is one of those arguments people make when they can't come up with anything better. It usually goes something like this:

-said adaptation is loved by the general public: "Oh it's trying something new, the old thing was outdated anyway, this is the future. People love it so it must be good".
-said adaptation is not loved by the general public:"How dare they change this sacred work, they ruined it along with my childhood, car and X-Box achievements".Β

Everyone suddenly becomes a brave literature critic once they glue themselves to the majority opinion and all dissenting ones are shouted down by the cacophony of screeches.Β

But don't worry, soon that MacDonald's cult is going to become reality judging by the way the world is going.Β

Say what you will about del Toro and Mignola but they were right to cast Perlman in the role instead of some big name star. Would be interested to know what you think of the comic and the movies.

We shall get to that ! And yes, they were right to cast him. David Harbour was not bad either even if the movie had some tonal issues and the make-up would fit Etrigan more than Hellboy...
