Description
"With style, Petite. With style.""So much for the high road ..."
"This would be the part where the nun smacked your hands wit' a ruler for bein' a bad boy. Or did that only happen to me?"
"Every part a' the man I was says I should push my bo-staff through your thick skull but de problem with dat solution is that I'd be givin' you exactly what you want! Best way t'beat you down, Creed, ain't t'bet you up. I worked too hard, care too much about bein' here, learnin' how t'love for real, an' bein' an X-Man t'let a loser like you take it away from me."
"I'm tired, Carl. I mean, I am really tired. Life tired, you know? You know what it's like t'always carry someone else's load only to realise the load you put on yourself is even heavier?"
"For de first time since you dropped into dis century, you called me "Remy". You tryin to make me blush?"
"Guess all that rap music and those videogames must've inured me t'th effects of perpetrating real violence on psychotic killers."
Another big favorite since I've been posting around here .First off Gambit to me revolves around the word "devilish" as for the side influences we have Renart (let us face it , if Remy was a detective he'd be Renart , more of a con-artist than a detective [link] the lyrics also describe the cajun to a T ) , Bugs Bunny (especially from Clampett's Buckaroo Bugs ) and (of course ) Pepe LePew [link]
BTW , isn't it funny that Gambit is sort of a reverse Nightcrawler ? I mean Kurt looks somewhat freaky but acts as a honest guy through and through while Gambit ...well... somewhat earned his diable blanc epithet !
And as for whatever backlash he's been getting on a lot of boards (one of them being the Wolverinefiles one ) , Well I will say this :
Remy is simply a superior character to Logan in every way (oh and he is not the only anti-hero to have surpassed Wolvie in that regard
Wolverine , for a loner, is just too gregarious a character (again not really a bad thing ; that's how some work...) and we can all see that he gets ruined quickly (. He's just not that entertaining without a supporting character or a worthwhile foe and let's not forget about what REALLY ruined him in comics : cheer fucking overexposure . Don't get me wrong , I don't hate him and a lot of my fav stories have him playing important roles... though a lot of my friends do hate his guts
But Gambit ? Gambit's funny all on his own. He can be the caring cool big brother to his teammates (guy's always been very protective of kids , maybe due to his own childhood . Plus he's a really friendly dude, he does what he's asked to do in a mission ...) as much as the manipulative, self-interested thief on his own (who can be a huge bastard to his enemies, if not outright murder them .), always pulling a Woody Woodpecker on the cops. And he's fallible and learns from his trials and mistakes ! He's got enough depth and range as a character that he can fit in just about any story and STILL be the same lovable little foxy bastard .
And I leave you with this , I have more stuff to draw and to think about XD [link]
PS : Gambit may have ran away and joined LOL under the name Twisted Fate !

I love Gambit. I miss the 90s era X-men, wish they'd stop fucking with these characters.

Awesome, made me laugh, and very true to his character. I also enjoyed reading your analysis. Like ladymadcat, I've pretty much abandoned the comics, but reading this made me remember why I started reading them in the first place, oh so long ago. Thanks for the cool interpretation, and for the smiles.

well Ludi , I am touched that you liked it so much . I don't read the new comics either (when Bishop gets treated as a villain while Spiral gets in the hero team... It ;s time to tell them to go fuck themselves ... and I haven't started on the big insults here ) . So I decided to do these characters justice based on my continuity XD It is more fun and entertaining that way

I totally agree. When the comics stop being fun, it's best to make it fun yourself...

LOL @ the naked Gambit gracefully covering his essential parts with his cards, while flipping you off - priceless!!! A nice range of fitting expressions you've portrayed here
Anyways, I agree with your description. Especially with the Pepe LePew character resemblance, I'm glad you mentioned that What else could I say? Gambit definitely deserves more respect, especially in dire times like these. He's a character I haven't yet lost my respect for. I'd read his ongoing solo title if I wasn't currently sick of all things X.

To be entirely fair, not saying I disagree or dislike Gambit (so don't rage on me), but these days, a wet paper towel is a superior character to Wolverine.

I definitely agree with this. Wolvie may have started off as a loner, but he's evolved way beyond that role through, as you said, gregariousness. And there's nothing wrong with that--heck, change is good, it shows he's a real person--but the fact he keeps getting called a loner is just, well, wrong. And he does indeed work best with someone to bounce off of.
I don't think I even NEED to say I agree with the overexposure. That can ruin ANY good character, poor guy.
I like how you draw Gambit. I usually think he looks kind of sleazy when he's drawn with long, style-less hair, but he looks good, and much more modern, with the hair you gave him here. My favorite bit is the middle finger with the towel!
