Description It was born out of improvisation and ended up creating the least cruel type of dangerous aliens ! I already talked years about its rival's saga... and I suppose I am the only one who likes the whole Alien tetralogy (best being the third...). However when it comes to the Predator trilogy, I shall theorize that I'm the only one that enjoys the whole trilogy... Here's what I basically thought of them !

Predator (1987)

A commando succeeds in their jungle mission... only to be hunted down by something in the jungle...
It is one of the best sci-fi thrillers ever made. Schwarzenegger OWNS as Major Dutch ! He does play a far more accurate Conan here than in Milius' movie ! Seriously if this were a fantasy movie, it would be close to Howard's pulpy spirit ! The best thing about the whole movie and especially Dutch's character is how the control and dominion over their environment that he and his commando started with is gradually stripped away from them by an unseen threat. Ruthlessly and brutally And it's his resourcefulness as well as strokes of luck that save him. The Predator is only fully revealed at the very last section of the movie and I gotta say, I am jealous of his laughter www.youtube.com/watch?v=WofqmW… .
Also, Shane Black's character dies in this movie. And it is hilarious for several reasons...

Predator 2 (1990)

In 1997, a different Predator arrives in Los Angeles and begins hunting violent gang members (beause they are the dominant species in the big city. Which is sadly accurate...), drawing the attention of the local police force. It's up to Mike Harrigan, Maria Conchita Alonso and an excellent Bill Paxton character (FAAAAR better than the one from Aliens) to investigate and stop this insane slaughter ! Well there's also Gary Busey's MiB (except they don't wear black) team , so that helps...
THIS is my favorite of the trilogy. I love how it expands juuuust enough on the lore of the yautja to have us discover how the creature really operates but it does not castrate its fright factor in the least. In fact, it makes it an even more fascinating threat !
I found all the protagonists likable (and felt bad when horrible things happened to them ) and Danny Glover is fantastic in this. His character barely stood a chance against a creature that still went through hell and was pissing its phosphorescent blood by the last act! Harrigan really had to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat here !
However, the greatest scene in the whole trilogy remains THIS www.youtube.com/watch?v=82uxTE… ... it sums up the Yautja in 2 minutes flat.
Also Gary Busey is now a top candidate in the "accurate Deadpool voice" competition ! Congrats !

Predators (2010)

An ensemble of people that are pretty darn good at liberating other people from the burden of their lives find themselves stranded in a huge hostile jungle. They are guided through this environment by Adrien Brody, his 6-pack and aerodynamic and have to survive while grasping what led them to this situation.
Honestly, I do NOT get the complaints thrown at this flick. For something that has been in development hell for years, it really pulls its act pretty damn well and has for the most part its own identity in the saga. The alien world seems familiar at first but then becomes suffocating and nightmarish (and those are just trees !) and the 3 antagonistic Predators (I suppose they're bad bloods... didn't seem picky with their kills...who knows?) were properly built up towards before owning the screen. Those are indeed the assholes among their people. The human characters are decent and while Brody is cool, I found Laurence Fishburne's "survivor" to be the most chilling in this (silver medal goes to Topher Grace , didn't see that coming...). I think the one weakness of this movie is that the last act shows too much reverence towards the first movie BUT it is thankfully toned down by the team victory against the Berserker Predator... and the fact it ends on a BLEAK NOTE ! Well done gentlemen, well done !
Also, Unmasked Berserker Predator looks like one of tropical ants ! No wonder he's rabid and angry !

Well I guess, that is that. An article that is 100% positive !
What ? There is a new one ? Oh I am sure it will be a great re-imagining of the Yautja, the atmosphere of the saga and on par with how one of the greatest Avengers/Iron Man villains was handled ! It will be daring , my friends ! As in "shoving your genitals in a wood chipper" daring...

I have seen the jungle films but never seen Predator 2 and holy fuck having seen that clip I really want to. The setting in urban city also sounds really cool.

Now I'm imagening Wade Wilson's tumor filled mug with Gary Busey's teeth. I can feel the nightmares coming already...

I must have missed your reviews of the Alien movies. Do you have them in a single post?

It is. In fact, the characteristics people think about the Predator mostly come from that movie, as he was mostly a mystery in the first one...

Speaking of Busey www.cracked.com/blog/your-3rd-…

It was a veeeery old drawing ... though it's still valid since my opinion did not change My take on Alien
