Description
This has been in my head for a while now, so I finally put it on paper !Idiots have whined that Apocalypse design is ridiculous, I answer that it's ridiculously VERSATILE ! He has plenty to spare and my personal take (he lost the hat during his fight with Nathan here ...) is a mixture of several ones. Did I mention that he is damn expressive ? So it s simply UNFORGIVABLE that we get bland and uninspired depictions like this
vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/ma… !
You have to EMBRACE operatic characters when drawing them !
Marvel Girl's design here is more or less the "X-Factor Forever" version, though I have to think of more details... Also NO PHOENIX. Ya hear ?!
The inspirations were mainly this www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-MY9r… and Doomed Megalopolis.
I ask you ; wouldn't an animated feature with these guys here with the proper rating be way better than the mediocre live stuff we got ?
Would I be tantalized if we've had a 5 years later comics series that take off after (a non-neutered ) Onslaught saga ? I would ! And in case you wonder what I am talking about , remember that THIS was a thing 1.bp.blogspot.com/-Yn-7Cy7I3JE… (What ? I am a Keith Giffen admirer, it's only natural I pillage his stuff ...)

Yeah, they really need to up the visceral nature of fights in action movies in general, there are few things more disappointing than watching some guy get blasted through walls only to get up without any wound, even the haircut usually stays perfect. But you can blame the scattered nature of the American rating system for that. This Apocalypse design looks really cool, is it inspired by something? I always found his design to be pretty lacking and this Geiger meets ancient Egypt look fits him very well. I know there is even this design floating around the Internet of what he would look like if he were played by the Rock.

That whole unshakeability and no-sell of damage has to be used sparringly to be at all effective.
The design is only lacking when artists just phone it in ! See, his classic suit looks great when you have someone like Walt Simonson at the helm biffbampop.com/wp-content/uplo…
But to answer your question, MY design is in fact a fusion of 2 of his (unfortunately ignored) designs : d1466nnw0ex81e.cloudfront.net/… art.cafimg.com/images/Category… and a bit of "Bastard!" Satan for good measure vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/de…
In the right hands (and as such the 2 greatest X-men runs) Apocalypse is a treasure trove of versatility The Fittest Bloodline

Pfff, like there is anything too ridiculous for comics. The entire point of the medium is that you can do anything there, if you know how to do it.
That comic page rocks! *whiny* But now I want the entire comic book or at least a fic!

Once I finish reading "Legion 5 years Later" properly (so...after the Levitz run...) , I will think of something. I am honored you love this page, it's been in my mind for years !

I like Apocalypse's attire here. I agree with you, it's definitely better than the simplified Uncanny Avengers stuff (I haven't read that BTW).
Also, Jean's outfit has realistic battle damage

No need to read it to know they didn't give a fuck. See, blandness is a pretty good indicator of that...
For the battle damage, yeah, I thought if it had to be visceral then they will be there ! Look even at Cable there !

Really? his design is ridiculous for them?
I personally wish Marvel does animated movies more based on certain comic book stories like "The original hobgoblin saga" or something like this. It worked so well (for the most part) with DC. Hell I personally liked Ultimate Avengers movie much more than "The Ultimates vol.1"

Yeah, they are fucking morons after all. One of the most vibrant characters and that's how they treat him. My version took after the way he looked in his and Sinister origin's as well Satan from the "Bastard !!" manga XD
I wish too. And I'd love for them to be as faithful as possible.

Sometimes I just don't get fandoms
Yeah, Really dig his pharaoh look since the 90s cartoon showed us that he is much older than any of the other mutants enemies.
It's just disappointing to see that the actual first animated Spidey movie will be something with Miles Morales and seeing other Spider-men instead of...these ideas

Eh, they ain't worth the hassle. It's funny how Apocalypse is derided and insulted by those cretins. His personality is nuanced enough to be amoral rather than actually evil. He is the personification of human history and the proper result of a life spent in suffering and rejection.
Seriously ? Miles gets an animated movie ? Pfeh...

I know, in fact, it was interesting the idea that he returned after House of M, which only proves what you just said about him and he is not just an evil mutant.
Yeah, such a big wasted oportunity

Actually, I was not refering to that (plus I hate M-Day and THAT story was a middle finger to fans of the character... he should have returned in "Cable and Deadpool" or the cosmic books rather than interacting with some of the worst written x-men ever...). I was talking about it the times where Apocalypse saved Warren (by making him Archangel...), defended Caliban from Loki, healed Xavier and helped the X-men go to Stryfe's lunar base. AND without asking for anything in return ! Or when he helped Cable and Sue during Onslaught (though they did not like his plan...oops XD) or when he spared Sinister because he saw his defiance as strength (people forget that Apoc usually loves challenge... in AoA it ended up killing him...). Honestly, ruthless though he can be, Nur is rather nice for an arch-antagonist !

The idea sounds good but the execution was the problem
Yeah, indeed and the fact that beneath the razor metal wings there was actual feathered ones.

The other problem is that it's after New X-men...so you know they wiped their asses with the works of Lobdell, Simonson and Nicieza ... and now you get why I did not find Onslaught to be bad the first time I read it. Flawed though it is, there was a sense of friendship and trust between the heroes...
Oh and the operation was free of charges XD Now Warren can bang Psylocke ! He should thank Nur for that ! XD

Yeah, I tried to give the next 90s run by Alan Davis a chance but as soon when Joseph became Magneto again...nop
One thing that I loved from the Lobdell and Nicieza run (and forgot to mention) was that neither the X-men or the mutant-human hysteria NEVER felt out of place as part of the Marvel Universe; As there have been many times that makes one wonder if they should have their own continuity more than once. Hell, when they unite with the 2 avenger teams to fight Exodus in Genosha may be my favorite Marvel Team up story so far (crossover events like Onslaught are considered their own category personally)
Yeah.

Well the Kelly/Seagle run does have some good moments Kelly-Seagle UXM Run but yeah, after Scott and Fabian left, the growth was really in the satellite books like Cable, X-Force and Gen X. What really pisses me off is that Joe Casey was supposed to write "The Twelve" and he was the last guy to write Apocalypse properly ... then editors fucked it up and Davis ruined like there's no tomorrow... what they did was a fucking sin. Just so they can write goddamn Magneto AGAIN.
I think they do not feel out of place because Scott and Fab EMBRACED the fact it is a comic and cut down on the whiny claremontian angst...a lot !

Isn't this run the one where Apocalypse meets his demise and Colossus scarified?
Makes sense to me

Mostly for Maggot, when he leaves you can quit it because "Hunt for Xavier" is garbage...
Yup. And what a "demise"... instead of having the most badass thing ever they throw him aside just so they can write about Magneto again...hurray...

Okay, I guess it deserves a second chance.
Considering the way Whedon talked about Jean Grey in his run and the many times he gives Morrison the middle finger, I have the feeling that he secretly wanted to resurrect her instead of the metal russian; Which actually happened in a what if story I really should read whatever how good or bad it is.

Two things: what does REDD stand for and where in timeline you imagine this happening (first battle, final battle etc.)? Looks damn good, I like the Egyptian design, showing Big A remembers his roots.

devilkais In reply to 141188 [2018-04-23 19:32:02 +0000 UTC]
Actually it's because I did not have a title in mind XD Redd is the name Jean took when she and Scott raised Nathan, so I went with that as a reference.
Where precisely , I don't know myself ... I have to re-organize that ! Should be after a few select readings...
I am glad you dig this design, I did it to bring all his qualities at once !

Compared to his look in Rise Of Apocalypse, Sinister's origin, Exodus' Origin, Cable's origin or even AoA, there's just no excuse. His look is just so polyvalent that it is unforgivable we get shit like that.
