Hell yeah ! I fucking love Tom & Jerry ( & my God , I really fucking need a Thesaurus !). Both are jerks , sadistic & beat the hell out of each other ! What's not to like ?Now this might shock you, but I actually like the Jones episodes as well . Sure you can't beat the Hanna-Barbera ones , but they're definitely worth a look (unlike the Gene Deitch ones... PFAH !). Then again here 's a list of my favourites with these 2 !

Same here...Tom gets the shaft (He's #4 on my shafted cartoon list) and Jerry is a complete a-hole! (I may make a list of Top-16 Cartoon Assholes sometime soon).

Anyways, Tom and Jerry is probably my fav cartoon, I loved watching them back when Cartoon Network actually aired good cartoons, and there were even marathons on each January 1st.....the good old times!
My favorite Tom & Jerry episode is "Timid Tabby", by far (when Tom's scaredy cousin George comes to visit). I LOVE it how the cats manage to win in the end and they drive the mouse crazy

Like most people I largely prefer Tom ( I only truly rooted for Jerry once ,the Milky Waif short ) . Besides in most cartoons the best characters are mostly ducks & cats ! In Warner Bros we've got Daffy Duck ( who basically is a great tragicomic anti-hero that basically fights against the world to survive or to become the star & never gives up despite or because he has no control over himself or the situation) & Sylvester (how can anyone not sympathise with Sly ?) , Disney 's absolute best character is Donald Duck (let's not even start on Duckburg & the whole mythology around it ! ) & who really roots for Jerry ? Everyone knows Tom is the superior character . Even though he still remains likable while being a jerk , there's something about him that's relatable & charismatic

Ah, the original Cat & Mouse duo. I just love seeing these guys beat the shit out of each other. 
I actually agree with you about Chuck Jones' take on Tom & Jerry, sure, they're not as great as the Hanna-Barbara era shorts, but still more entertaining than the Gene Deitch ones.
