If you look closely, his suit is kind of a color swap of the Joker's. The Frank Gorshin face is of course necessary ! Unlike many, I don't see him as light-hearted or harmless. My favorite take is the guy who is all about flaunting his ego and showcase his trickery. If someone dies along the way, well, they were not smart anyway...Related content

That's one of the reasons why I always hated Jim Carrey's take on the character. The Riddler isn't a crazy wild man he's a vain enigmatic egotist.

Carrey is not far from the very early iterations (not to mention that before his shit into the Riddler, His E. Nygma was pretty decent as an unstable sycophant...) , so I can't fault him. It's more on the executive meddling that tried making the movie safer and safer...
But yeah, Gorshin and Glover found the right balance with their portrayals...
